Existing customers of broadband ISP and mobile operator Virgin Media UK are now able to optionally take a subscription to Google One (i.e. the internet giant’s cloud storage service) “at no additional cost” for the first 3 months of service, but if you choose to keep it after that the price will be £1.59 per month.
At this point it’s important to highlight that the entry-level Google One plan is already complete free, but that only gives you 15GB (GigaBytes) of storage and the plan that Virgin Media are offering is the paid one that comes with 100GB (plus some other benefits, like expert support and access for family members). Google itself charges £15.99 per year for this, which works out at £1.33 per month (a little cheaper than VM’s post-trial price).
Otherwise, the operator says you can cancel free of charge anytime and may sign-up here – https://www.virginmedia.com/shop/google-one.

Nah, I’ll stick to private cloud thanks.
If you buy Google One directly from Google, and choose to pay monthly, it’s the same price of £1.59 per month. But you do have the option of paying annually at £15.99.

Doesn’t seem like existing Google one customers are eligible, FYI.
After the massive outage the other day I can’t trust any cloud private or otherwise. So it’s all being backed up to a couple of SSD’s should last me my lifetime.
All web services will definitely have outages at some point or another. Google will have your files redundantly backed up, can’t really say the same about some SSDs which have a limited lifespan.
