BT Sport TV App Extends Timeline Feature and Joins Netgem TV

Broadband ISP BT UK has this afternoon informed us that their BTSport TV (IPTV) video streaming app has launched a beta of their “timeline” feature for large screens. On top of that their app has now also become available via Netgem’s HD and 4K set-top-boxes, which are often sold by rival broadband providers.

BTSport viewers have been able to use the timeline feature on mobile and tablet devices for a while as part of the App’s TV player, but this is the first time they’ve been able to enjoy an improved viewing experience on large screens too. Users will thus be able to access an interactive timeline for each match to keep abreast of key moments and incidents or move seamlessly back to the live event.

The timeline feature will launch on the App for large screens, in beta form, in time for this week’s UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League finals. However, you won’t be able to access it in time for those events if you’re using the BTSport App via these specific platforms/devices: NetGem, NOW TV, Roku, Sky TV, BT TV or Virgin Media (that excludes a lot of users).

Jamie Hindhaugh, COO of BT Sport, said:

BT Sport is proud to have continually broken new ground in how fans can watch live sport in recent years and today’s launches are the first to come from BT Sport Innovates, our new home of innovation. We’re excited that fans can sample the timeline, a new way of viewing sport on TV, ahead of its launch next season. And in joining Netgem’s platform we’re continuing to make it even easier for fans to follow the sport they love.”

At launch the new timeline feature for large screens is only available in up to HD quality during the beta, but they plan to move to BT Sport Ultimate streams in 4K HDR in time for next season.

The following existing BT Sport customers do not have access to the App on large screen devices:

o EE customers with only small screen app access (mobile/tablet)

o BT Business customers

o Customers who only take BT Mobile

o Virgin Media BT Sport customers

o Those who subscribe to BT Sport directly from Sky

The NetJuck TV platform should be consigned to the ash heap of history, it’s by far the worst TV platform being pushed by ISPs.

BT must be desperate to increase its potential subscriber base, in order to make its sports unit as attractive a proposition as possible for whomever its hoping to offload it to.

BT Sport streamed yesterday the 2021 UEFA Europa League Final and the UEFA Champions League Final for free!

The broadcaster also announced that the large screen app has been added to Netgem (UK), with both the Netgem HD and 4K TV boxes now offering it to BT Sport app subscribers. Owners of the Netgem soundbox HD sound system can also access the app.

The timeline features will launch on the App for large screens in beta form for this week’s UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League finals, with a view to launching in full next season around events such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. While viewers have been able to use a timeline on mobiles and tablets for several seasons as part of the App’s enhanced player, this is the first time that they will be able to enjoy an improved viewing experience on large screens.

The new features allow customers watching on TV via the App to access an interactive timeline for each match to keep abreast of key moments and incidents. The feature allows them to re-watch key moments and move seamlessly back to the live action.

Meanwhile, customers can access the App for large screens on the Netgem 4K and Netgem HD TV boxes, plus Netgem soundbox HD. BT Sport will join an array of HD and 4K content available via the Netgem platform including Freeview Play, Prime Video, Youtube, and BritBox.

The Netgem launch means BT Sport customers can access the App on a growing number of platforms and devices, following recent launches in the past year on Amazon Fire TV, Roku devices as well as TV sets supporting Android TV joining existing availability on Samsung smart TV, Sony PlayStation, Xbox, Google Chromecast and Apple TV, as well as mobiles and tablets. BT Sport is also available on all major pay TV platforms BT TV, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media.

    Great!

Just weeks after bringing “BT Sport” and “Fuel TV” to the platform, NETGEM TV is adding more than 15 free sports channels to its line-up.

=> The new channels, which are operated by SportsTribal TV, will bring users action from a raft of sports including eSports, lacrosse, action and adventure sports, MMA, billiards, pool and snooker TV, live U.S collegial games, women’s football, Poker, Health and real-time fitness classes, electric motorsports, equestrian sports, skiing and snowboarding.
