Mobile operator giffgaff has announced that they’re boosting the data (mobile broadband) allowances on some of their existing 4G and ultrafast 5G plans, which will apply to both new and existing customers. For example, their £12 per month “goodybag” will grow from 10GB to 12GB at no extra cost.
Typically, all of giffgaff’s Pay Monthly (no contract) goodbags come with unlimited calls and minutes as standard, thus the main differentiator is in their data allowances. Plus, all of the goodybags listed below will continue to come with an extra 1GB of data “if members run out, so you’ll never be caught short whilst out and about.”
As part of this refresh, which was introduced yesterday, the existing £10 goodybag will grow from 6GB to 8GB and the £12 goodybag will grow from 10GB to 12GB, all at no extra cost. As well as this, the £10 golden (5G) goodybag will increase from 9GB to 10GB. The extra data will be added “automatically” for existing customers.
Very rarely do I hit the limit on the £10 goody bag, good news though.
Lebara much better deal £6.95 for 10gb , plus 100 international mins, 30 day contract
ID mobile
£8 for 15GB 30days
unused data rolls to next month.
Indeed, Lebara is greater value and the included international minutes are very much appreciated.
With many in situations where friends and family are scattered all across the continent you’d think more would provide this facility.
Giffgaff have made a fairly serious gaff with their new voicemail voice. The sound levels are all over the place. He sounds drunk. It’s terrible.
“Go back home, Giffgaff voice. You’re drunk”
For a self service network they aren’t really competitive, but I also understand that some customers basically get paid for there efforts helping customers via their forums so the balance is likely very varied.
I tried them out earlier this year and they really sucked if I’m honest, and then they added insult to injury when they tried repeatedly to take money after explicitly telling them not too.
Paying people to post with payback on the Giffgaff Community (up to £100 a month) does not really work well. There is a lot of disinformation and copy and paste answers that frequently fail to answer the question or contain false or misleading answers.
Hope they deliver 5G soon.
There is 5G on the Golden Goodybags. No WiFi calling or VoLTE though.
John,
Does VoLTE really make a difference? I’ve made 3G calls and I struggle to notice the difference between that and a VoLTE call. Perhaps I’m not paying enough attention though!
Yes, providing you have HD calling on the 3G call there is not much difference in sound quality, if any, between that and VoLTE. I think VoLTE uses less battery.
Just to note there is no HD calling on Giffgaff.
It can make a difference in that the quality can be higher, bur maybe more importantly while on a call you are not downgraded to 3G which matters if you are using mobile data at the time for anything.
