Sky Go Video Streaming App Now Available to UK Apple TV Users

Sky UK (Sky TV, Sky Broadband) appears to have quietly taken the beta tag off their popular Sky Go video streaming app for Apple TV devices, which means that regular customers of their Pay TV service should now be able to download and use it.

The media giant, which has been busy testing the app for the past few months, originally intended to launch the video streaming app for Apple TV devices during the “first half of 2022“, but it’s taken them a bit longer than expected to get it out of the door (here). Beta testers were also told that they needed a Sky Q Multiscreen or Sky Glass Whole Home subscription to access it.

However, according to a report on 9to5mac and applepost, the Sky Go app for Apple TV is now available. But at the time of writing, we couldn’t find any announcements from Sky to confirm this, and our attempts to hail the operator have so far not produced an official comment.

Nevertheless, the last beta release of the app that we saw was v22.7.1 on Apple’s tvOS store (here), yet this did flick over last night to the release candidate v22.7.3 and ordinary customers seem to be reporting that they can now login to use it. Just don’t expect the best audio or video quality, although it should be fine for the basics. But there may still be some bugs to work out.

UPDATE 2:16pm

We’ve had it confirmed that Sky has indeed made Sky Go available on Apple TV, but that’s all.

Shame it doesn’t work the same was as the iPad and iOS version works and allow you access to recordings and stream live from the satellite feed in home from your Q box.

In it’s current incarnation it’s more use to allowing your family to share your subscription and sharing the costs.

Sky messed up that great feature a few months ago at least for the sports channels, instead of live being a couple of seconds off viewing on the Sky Q box directly the sports channels and I assume others always stream over the internet with a massive delay of over 1 minute.
You can tell because they have the square icon bottom right.

I think the streamed quality is probably better but a lot of the time I’d prefer a nearer to live stream via the Sky Q box especially when multiple people are watching the same game and you can hear the commentary or reactions a minute before you see it.

      Sounds like the Xbox app.

It always felt like a waste that you had to lease their proprietary hardware over something like a Fire Stick.

Even if piracy is the ‘official’ reason like with Sky Go and rooted devices, chances are people can easily bypass it anyway.

Only available for Multiroom and Glass customers so standard Sky Q not an option which seems a little pointless?

Tried this, waste of time as the quality is utter rubbish on my 4K OLED using a 2021 4K Apple TV, the Now TV app is better quality.

    1. Mark-Jackson Mark Jackson says:

Doesn’t the NOW TV app still limit you to 720p as well, unless you pay extra for the Boost, or did they change that?

  4. Avatar photo Greg says:

    Utter rubbish.

Doesn’t link to Apple TV Watch Now.

Doesn’t link to Sky Glass playlist.

Video quality is useless even though I pay for Ultra HD

I can’t get anything on demand to play – only live channels. Only have Sky Q so maybe that’s the reason?

  6. Avatar photo Chris Gray says:

720p only. No access to recordings. No tracking of viewing in Apple TV. What a useless app.

I recently added Sky Go Extra as It was part of a VIP
free deal. The Sky Advisor assured me, it will work on Apple TV
    4K without the Multiscreen subscription.
Well, It doesn’t work and error message says subscription to
    Multiscreen is required. Wasted time.
