City-focused gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic has today celebrated its 11th anniversary and highlighted how they expect to extend the coverage of their gigabit-capable “full fibre” (FTTP/B) network to cover 1 million UK premises by Christmas. A significant milestone on the way to their target of 2 million by the end of 2023.
At present the operator’s network can already be found in parts of 64 UK towns and cities, with 250,000 customers connected (greater than 25% penetration rate) and 2,000 staff (up from 230k customers and 1,800 staff in April 2022). Most of their deployments stem from connecting large residential (MDU) and office buildings, although they’re also branching out to reach individual housing (SDU).
Interestingly, today’s announcement states that the provider has a greater than 25% penetration rate, but they note that this rises to 40% in areas where Hyperoptic has been present for more than 1 year (we assume that’s an average). A 40% take-up is very strong for an operator that typically deploys into aggressively competitive urban areas, although not all of their big residential buildings give you a choice of gigabit-capable rivals.

The company is now close to a third milestone of reaching 1 million homes passed (that will be up from 900,000+ in July 2022), which it expects to hit before Christmas.
Dana Tobak, Hyperoptic CEO, said:
“We’re not just building a fibre network, we’re connecting homes and businesses to fast, reliable broadband – reaching this 250,000 milestone with an overall penetration rate above 25% is down to the teamwork and focus of our 2,000 colleagues.
There is a lot of excitement around the full fibre market here in the UK, but not every company laying fibre today will be around long term. We’re ensuring we have a sustainable business model that will see us continue to grow and attract investment.”
Customers of the provider currently pay from £17.99 per month for a basic 30Mbps tier (£22 after the first 24-months), which rises to just £35 for their top 900Mbps package (£50 after the first 24-months). Hyperoptic also offers a Fair Fibre Plan in the form of a social tariff for those on benefits, which starts at £15 per month for an unlimited 50Mbps package and rises to £25 for 150Mbps.
However, in order to celebrate their 11th birthday, Hyperoptic is offering a new deal – 1Gb full fibre broadband for £25. The deal will run until 26th October 2022, and is available via the website, chat, or phone. But at the time of writing it wasn’t yet live on their website.
Outside London where there’s Community Fibre and Gnetworks contesting a lot of the same landlords, they don’t actually have much competition so the 40% figure only makes sense if they have removed the London overbuild.
Yeah, they were supposed to install in b27 7ta but nothing two years on i think they local authorities to accept in them and then don’t
bother to install anything that way blocking out any other provider that is willing to install fftp from doing so
