Neos Networks, which operates a 34,000km long fibre network with 676 Points of Presence across the UK, has today launched a Managed variant of its Dedicated Internet Access (Managed DIA) service. The service will provide businesses with fully managed, enterprise-grade fibre optic internet connectivity.
The service has the ability to scale bandwidth as required, with speeds (capacities) ranging from 10Mbps to 1Gbps across the United Kingdom. Neos said they do not dictate a single connection type for Managed DIA – customers can deploy the service to gain access to the internet over an FTTP / FTTC broadband connection or an Ethernet fibre connection.
The move is significant because Neos has traditionally been more of a wholesale fibre infrastructure provider, while today’s announcement sees them traverse further into its customer’s environment. Neos said they achieve this through devices placed at either end of the line, enabling them to perform proactive monitoring of connectivity.

Further to this, Neos Networks’ MPLS core network ensures that the solution offers “in-built resilience, eradicating the inevitable business concerns around loss of service“. Naturally, it also integrates with the Neos Networks’ Cloud Connect capability, providing secure connectivity to a wide range of Cloud Service Providers.
Mark Charlesworth, Neos’ Director of Product, said:
“The flexibility in our service model will strengthen what we and our channel partners can offer, allowing customers to pick and choose elements of the Managed DIA service based on what is relevant to their business. We will be able to strengthen relationships with customers that want a fully wrapped monitored solution, taking away the management headaches that occur when needing to manage and mature the hardware at either end of a traditional DIA connection.”
The press release states that they only offer capacities up to 1Gbps, but the webpage for this product (here) puts the figure at up to 10Gbps.
How is that different from a leased line?
I don’t think it is –
customers can deploy the service to gain access to the internet over an FTTP / FTTC broadband connection or an Ethernet fibre connection.
So you can basically take DIA over EoFTTC and things like EFM and Flex… which people can do already.
Managed DIA they provide the router/firewall, handle the connection from the LAN port on the device and monitor it all for you. DIA you provide and report faults yourself.
DIA is a leased line. Leased line isn’t actually a product, it’s a catch-all for a few different products where the customer isn’t sharing their access line or capacity with others. It may go to the Internet, it may go to a datacentre somewhere, it may go to the other office across town.
For clarity EoFTTC/P isn’t DIA. Neos specifically sell it as EoFTTx not DIA. TalkTalk sell it separately from their ‘leased line’ products. The access network is shared: no dedicated capacity only prioritised and that isn’t guaranteed.
