ISP Zzoomm Expands UK FTTP Broadband Rollout into Wiltshire

UK ISP Zzoomm has revealed that they’re expanding the rollout of their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network further south to include the county of Wiltshire (England). The first location to benefit from this will be the town and civil parish of Calne.

So far the provider, which launched in 2020 and aims to reach 1 million premises across 85 UK towns by the end of 2025, has mostly focused its rollout on smaller towns in parts Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Herefordshire, North Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire. But they’re now expanding further south into Wiltshire.

NOTE: Zzoomm is fuelled by an equity investment of £100m from Oaktree Capital (here) and a £100m debt facility via an international banking consortium (here).

The operator has so far covered 50,000 premises (July 2022), which is up from 10,000 in December 2021, and the build in Calne is expected to cost £7.5 million and add another 9,500 premises (homes and businesses) to their coverage.

However, the provider will not be the only gigabit-capable broadband network in the town, with Openreach having already deploying their own rival FTTP infrastructure to cover most of the local premises.

Matthew Hare, CEO of Zzoomm, said:

“Calne is getting a competitive Full Fibre network that delivers blistering gigafast speeds and solid reliability. We at Zzoomm believe that that everyone should have access to brilliant, future ready broadband. The homes and businesses of Calne should be able to choose something better from Zzoomm, the provider that gives you more.”

Customers on the new network currently pay from £33 per month for an unlimited 150Mbps (symmetric speed) package on a 24-month term with an included Icotera router, which goes up to £99 if you want their top 2Gbps tier (or £66 for 900Mbps+). Most packages do attract a £20 one-off activation fee, but they’re also offering the first 6 months of service for free.

Zzoomm seem to have broken their website or deliberately removed the my account section which is a bit concerning as you can’t view bills or change payment details.
