UK ISP Voneus, which last year said they had a “near term” plan to cover 100,000 homes in rural areas with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (here), has appointed Sky’s ex-Group Director, Trevor Legg, to be its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and an Executive Committee member.
The operator recently stated that it delivers ultrafast and superfast broadband to over 10,000 properties across more than 25 counties in England and Wales, which is up from 7,100 one year ago, and they plan to reach 20,000 by March 2023. But this reflects a mix of both their Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and Full Fibre (FTTP) networks.
According to today’s announcement, Voneus has now “identified” over 200,000 rural premises (it’s unclear whether this is a new coverage target) and is on track to complete the first phase of its FTTP roll-out plan by March 2023. As part of that, and a desire to accelerate their plans, they’ve just appointed Sky’s ex-Group Director, Trevor Legg, to be their new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the newest Executive Committee member.

Trevor formerly held the position of Group Director at Sky, where he was responsible for the growth of Sky Broadband’s service through the acceleration of Sky’s broadband exchange and build programme. Prior to that he also held the post of Operational Director at Easynet, before Sky’s acquisition of the company in 2005.
Steve Leighton, Chief Executive of Voneus, said:
“It’s a real privilege to welcome Trevor to the team here at Voneus. He brings a track record of FTTP delivery and is a proven leader in the market. His enthusiasm and energy have had an instant impact in the business. We are all very excited about working with him.”
Customers of Voneus’ service typically pay from £34.99 per month for a 100Mbps (symmetric speed) package, which rises to £44.99 for 300Mbps and £59.99 for 900Mbps on a 24-month term. New customers also benefit from the first month of service for free.
