Quickline UK Grows Rural Full Fibre Network to 10,000 Premises

Rural broadband ISP Quickline, which is deploying a mix of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) networks across parts of Lincolnshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire in England, has today revealed that their full fibre build has now covered 10,000 premises across multiple locations and rising.

The FTTP side of their network roll-out is still in the early ramping-up phase, but despite that they’ve already managed to reach more than 20 rural communities in the space of just 8-months – primarily across North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire.

The work is being supported by an investment of £500 million from Northleaf Capital Partners, which acquired the company in 2021. The funding will fuel their future ambition to cover 500,000 UK premises in rural and semi-rural areas with “ultrafast broadband” via a mix of FTTP and 5G based FWA (wireless) infrastructure “by 2025” (here).

The new communities, which can now receive Quickline’s fibre service, are listed below – covering more than 7,000 of the 10,000 premises total so far (this is excluding FWA coverage). This is in addition to the villages of Flixborough and Normanby, north of Scunthorpe, and Skelton, near York, where Quickline went live with FTTP late last year.

Quickline’s New Full Fibre Communities
• Burton Upon Stather and Thealby, north of Scunthorpe.
• North and South Killingholme and East Halton, west of Grimsby.
• Digby, Rowston and Scopwick, south of Lincoln.
• Carlton, Camblesforth, Newland, Barlow and Drax, south of Selby.
• Deighton, south of York.

Residents and businesses in some of these communities are said to have “previously received broadband speeds as low as 3Mbps“, although Quickline states that typical speeds were “around 36Mbps at best” (some of them were served via FTTC lines).

Julian Chalk, Quickline’s Head of Network Enablement, said:

“Our fibre service is a game-changer for communities which have endured slow, inconsistent broadband for too long. In just eight months, we’ve taken full fibre to more than 20 communities as part of our accelerated rollout programme.

Our full fibre broadband comes all the way to your door, so you can enjoy even higher speeds. When some providers talk about fibre, what that actually means is that fibre is connected to a cabinet in your local area, but then outdated copper cables carry it to your home or business. That severely impacts the broadband speeds and reliability you receive.

Our fibre broadband direct to your home or business ensures you get the high-quality and high-speed online experience you deserve. If you live in one of the communities in our latest fibre rollout, get in touch with us and discover for yourself the benefits of Quickline broadband.”

Residential customers covered by their FTTP network are usually charged from £29 per month on a 24-month term for 100Mbps (50Mbps upload) speeds with free installation, and that goes up to £49 for their top 900Mbps (450Mbps upload) tier. But Quickline are also giving their customers some peace of mind with a commitment that their tariffs will remain unchanged for 24-months.

In total, Quickline added that they’ve connected 2,000 rural communities across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire with faster broadband speeds during 2022, but we assume from the above information and other updates (example) that most of this will have been via their fixed wireless network.
