Independent Kent-based UK ISP Orbital Net, which also runs the Vfast sub-brand that sells packages to homes via a mix of wireless (FWA) and full fibre (FTTP) broadband networks, has today announced a few major changes to its executive committee. After some 25 years, CEO Darren Brown is retiring, and Ben Doherty will be filling his shoes.
Brown was the original founder of Orbital Net in the late nineties, starting with a single rack cabinet and a 64Kbps leased line (initially only providing web hosting and domain registration), and has led the company ever since. Later, the provider also pioneered the use of WiMAX wireless technology to supply broadband, mainly to rural businesses that were unable to connect to fixed line ADSL or fibre due to lack of infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Ben Doherty has been with the company for over two decades and moved up through the ranks to fill various leadership positions, including CTO and finally as CEO. “He’s the best person for the job,” says Brown. “He knows the company inside and out, and he has great people skills. I have absolute confidence in him.”

Ben Doherty, Orbital Net CEO, said:
“Darren Brown has led Orbital Net from strength to strength and it’s going to be hard to fill his shoes. But together we have built a wonderful team, with a great long-range plan, so I’m looking forward to continuing the path we have set.”
The changes to the executive committee are effective immediately, and the Orbital Internet Group is now looking forward to continued growth.
