Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has recently begun to issue new firmware updates (v5.04 and v5.05) for both their Virgin TV 360 and STREAM platforms, which add a variety of new features. For example, the Pluto TV streaming app is now available on both 360 and Stream boxes, but that’s not all.
Other changes include tweaks to the “What’s on Now” summary (STREAM), improvements to text search (displaying your most recent searches, if opted into Personalisation, or most popular searches if not), more skipping options for on-demand content (i.e. you can skip the intro at the beginning of each episode and skip to the next episode (if there is one) once the credits roll) and programme titles will now only show for in focus programmes.
One other welcome change is that Virgin Media will now supply more specific information around the latest software updates to their TV platforms directly to customers – this is now available by going to ‘Home’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Info’. Previously the update notes contained a more generic message, but will now provide greater details on what has changed.

I wonder if they will migrate all V6 TiVo platform customers over to virgin 360 horizon platform when TiVo rights for Virginmedia end unless they renew it but I highly doubt it
They wanted me to pay an extra £20 for said upgrade last time I talked to them. And I declined it, firmware updates like this shouldn’t cost extra.
Mark – its not just firmware update, you get new remotes too (tivo ones stop working). I agree though it should be free
Martin, the remotes probably cost them 20p to make in china. they are just scamming people for their money at this stage.
There is a contract for TiVo to support the TiVo and V6 boxes but we don’t know when it will end. It’s hardly likely to get entended as Liberty Global has a team developing Horizon, and it’s only a matter of time when everyone gets forcibly migrated off the TiVo platform. TiVo boxes which are faulty get replaced by either V6 or 360 boxes, and this has been happening for quite some time.
To add to Roger_Gooner – V6 remains fully supported, and TiVo are replaced with V6. The only scenario where TiVo/V6 are swapped with TV360 is where the customer requests a conversion or accepts an invitation to do so.
There’s much evidence of VM sales staff being a little devious with users who don’t fully understand what the “upgrade” entails, though.
Negotiate it into your renewal deal. I got it free some time ago.
I have been waiting since 13 th July for someone to get back to about a new vito box all I got was 5 pound off my bill I pay 70pound for manly free view chanel I keep phone them I’ve been with them for for since they were telly West
My mother recently had enough of Virgin. She’s lot prepared to pay £60 a month any longer and doesn’t need broadband to her home to do a few emails on her phone anyway. So rather than go through calling them up to cancel and going through that I wrote a letter for her to post to Virgin to cancel, she sent it recorded delivery. Next up she gets a letter back thanking her for her complaint and informing her it’ll take up to 6 weeks to get a response.
I spent over an hour on the phone in a queue before spending another 30 minutes to get them to actually cancel the services. Utterly terrible experience leaving them. she’s been with Virgin since it was Diamond Cable/NTL.
Latest update has updated the tv’s it can control, it wouldnt control my volume etc. But now my virgin controls my old Panasonic so I’m quite pleased.
I am on V6 box, I have been offered 360 several times, in and out of contract and they have offered it free. If you have been a customer for sometime, you build up loyalty credit, call through and pick the options that you are leaving, the first person you get will be an overseas agent, they will try and sort you out a package with a reduced price, if your happy with the package you are on, look at the price of the package if a new customer picked it, they won’t give you that price, its just to entice new customers. If you get an offer of about £5 more than new customer price nab it, sometimes overseas agents don’t always get it correct. Sometimes it pays to get then, as they are overseas they look at what we pay in England and it calculates to ridiculous money, for example if you get an agent in manilla. If you get a switched on agent, and they don’t come anywhere near the new customer price plus £5, ask them to put you through to disconnections, call between 9am and 5pm and you will get through to England, some times the agent will call it retentions. If you get straight through to England. Normally the price they offer is the best and that’s it, but if you went overseas and they then transfer you, the agent, sees the offer you have been given. These agents have the power to adjust your payments by bigger amounts. Aim for the new customer price, plus £5. If you just say as a loyal long standing customer, why should you pay more than a new customer, be polite and respectful, it goes a long way to getting a discount. Call up a month before your contract is due to renew or your discounts end.
On the upgrade side, I have used the 360 platform and hate it, I’m on the v6 platform, I don’t want to switch till forced too. If you decide to swP remember, if you don’t like it, you can’t revert backwards.
