Merseyside-based broadband ISP BeFibre, which sells packages to consumers and businesses via FullFibre Limited’s gigabit speed UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has revealed that they’re aiming to introduce new multi-gigabit speed Wi-Fi 7 routers and extenders by Q2 2025 as part of a new deal with Switzerland-based Heights Telecom (Heights Telecom UK Ltd).
The strategic partnership, which will this year start with the introduction of a more traditional Wi-Fi 6 router and extender hardware, looks as if it might replace or supplement BeFibre’s existing CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) relationship that has seen them harnessing Wi-Fi 6 routers from Linksys. But it’s the Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) kit from Heights Telecom that carries most interest.
At this stage we don’t know exactly which models of WiFi 6 or 7 routers and extenders BeFibre are planning to field from Heights Telecom over the next few months, but they all look like fairly capable kit. The only downside is that the manufacturer isn’t a familiar name to UK consumers, and only time will tell how well they compare with the provider’s current crop of kit.

Louise Elliott, BeFibre’s Chief Customer and Operations Officer, said (Fibre Provider):
“Beginning this partnership with Heights Telecom will ensure that our customers can access the best connectivity experiences. This will redefine the local market and deliver on our promise of broadband as it should be for all of our customers.”
BeFibre is only the latest ISP after others, like EE and Zen Internet, to announce plans for the future launch of Wi-Fi 7 routers. The first customers to benefit from the new kit will be those on their top 900Mbps and 2.3Gbps tiers (the latter doesn’t appear to have launched yet).

Israel-based? Oh dear.
It would be nice if we could produce these routers in our own country without having to rely on rogue countries that can’t be trusted.
We used to produce so much in this country and now produce very little.
So we have a choice of Israel or China, maybe India, what a choice
If you think Israel is a ‘rouge country you can’t trust’, you need to stop watching and reading mainstream media… Israel has been a majorly important friend of the UK for decades, it is quite trustworthy. And it has been a keystone in communications tech for years too.
I think it’s brilliant to see an alt net ISP committing to WiFi 7 openly, especially when the big players still haven’t really published their intentions.
WiFi 7 well deployed, on a high speed FTTP connection should give a noticeable improvement to WiFi experience – personally I can’t wait until my address is FTTP ready!
Its not going to be as good as it could be.
We are limited in the UK because we don’t have access to half of the 6Ghz band. This is a reason why we don’t have a lot of ISPs selling WiFi 6E APs. I think we will see a lot of WiFi 7 routers just using 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, and skipping 6Ghz.
Are they planning on launching faster speeds than the 900?
