Customers of Sky (Sky TV, Sky Broadband etc.) may like to know that the media giant has today announced an extension of their long-term collaboration with Amazon, which will see ‘Prime Video’ apps and related content continue to be available on Sky devices (e.g. Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream etc.).

Nick Herm, Sky’s Chief Business Officer, said: “At Sky, we want to provide people with the aggregation platform of choice that brings them with all their favourite apps and channels in one place. We’re delighted to renew our partnership with Prime Video so that Sky customers can continue to enjoy its award-winning content across all of our devices.”

The extension agreement applies to Sky’s outlets in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

Just for a moment, I read that as “Sky UK Extends Agreement to Retain Satellites”, then reality kicked in, sigh.

That streamer isn’t a patch on Sky Q and that’s only going to be here for a few more years, unfortunately. I’m really not looking forward to that inevitable moment.

Sky already extended it’s contract with SES to 2029, by which time SKY Q will be getting on for 15 years old anyway.

Then it should be replaced with another similar system. The way they do streaming now is a poor experience, with so many restrictions and limitations. All Sky have to do is make it work like now, with a hard disc, but get the live broadcast over the internet. A current Q box could work like this with perhaps just a software update.

I cancelled my Sky Q. Our TV regularly went down and all sky ever said was “well there’s scaffolding on the building which is blocking the satellite signal”…
I live in a private flat of council owned building in a block of 8, we all have individual dishes for some reason…

At first Sky gave us refunds but then they started to tell us to go to the council… Our TV was off for 2 months at 1 stage where the scaffolding got put up, they worked for a week and then just stopped for the next 2 months! Leaving us with nothing for no reason. And if you are not aware, if you are without satellite signal for long enough, the box stops working all together! So all the movies (which download over the internet!), all the streaming services we used through the box and even catch-up (again over the internet) stopped working!

It was then when Sky announced they were reducing the packages you got with the streaming services that we made the decision to just cancel the package. We’ve signed up to all the services we used and we are paying less than we were for the Sky. And it never just drops out.
