ITS Technology engineer full fibre

The ITS Technology Group, which operates 36 wholesale full fibre broadband and Ethernet networks (“Faster Britain“) across urban parts of the UK for businesses and ISPs, has today announced that they’ve “refreshed” their suite of wholesale Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based products aimed at businesses that need to get digital-ready.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has extended their already nearly year-long trial of 2.5Gbps Optical Network Terminals (ONT) for installations of specified bandwidths on Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP lines. The trial, which was due to end next month, will now run for another year.

Broadband provider MTH Networks has today become the latest retail ISP to confirm that they’ve jumped onto Freedom Fibre‘s growing gigabit-capable broadband (FTTP) network, which has so far covered over 300,000 premises (27th Mar 2024) across the United Kingdom – mostly in the North West of England.

City-focused broadband ISP and alternative network provider Hyperoptic has revealed the appointment of four new key members to its leadership team. On top of that, they’ve also quietly confirmed that their gigabit full fibre (FTTP/B) network now covers “more than” 1.6 million UK homes (up from 1.4m in Oct 2023) across parts of 64 UK towns and cities.

Alternative network operator Trooli, which was last year acquired by Agnar UK Infrastructure (here) and has so far extended their gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 334,000 premises (RFS) across England and Scotland (here), has become the latest ISP to launch a 2Gbps (multi-gigabit) speed package. All package speeds have also gone symmetric.

Budget UK ISP Plusnet, which is typically positioned as BT’s low-cost division for basic internet access services, has now confirmed that their own-brand of EE powered Pay Monthly SIM-Only Mobile plans will finally be closing “throughout” this month (June 2024). Customers must transfer before their accounts are closed to avoid losing their service and number.

Network operator and ISP Sure, which is present on the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, has informed existing customers of their intention to increase mobile, phone and broadband prices – in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) – by “up to” 6.1% (Isle of Man), 5.8% (Guernsey) and 5.7% (Jersey) from 1st July 2024.

Alternative network operator and UK broadband ISP Brsk have put part of their plan to roll-out a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in the market town of Ashton (Tameside, Greater Manchester) and Dukinfield under review, which comes after locals raised concerns over the provider’s use of poles for part of the build.

The Scottish Government has issued a contract notice for the North East of Scotland (Lot 5) under the UK’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband roll-out scheme, which is expected to expand related connectivity to an estimated 68,342 premises in hard-to-reach (rural) parts of Dundee, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Moray, Highland and Perth and Kinross.

Alternative network operator and UK ISP Grain (Grain Connect), which has extended their gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to cover 220,000 premises (RFS) and 30,000 customers, has revealed that they recently set a new personal record by getting a new customer connected within just 36 minutes.

Network operator Freedom Fibre, which has so far built their gigabit-capable broadband (FTTP) ISP network to cover 300,000 UK premises (27th Mar 2024) – mostly in the North West of England, has confirmed to local residents in the Cheshire village of Hollins Green and Rixton that they’ve acquired the local full fibre network from CityFibre.

Broadband ISP Virgin Media has today revealed that their online security services – ‘Essential Security‘ (included for free on their packages) and ‘Advanced Security’ (paid), have – between June 2022 to May 2023 – blocked 136 million unsafe or harmful websites, 800k virus, malware and spyware risks and secured 4.9 million banking and shopping transactions.

A new company called IOEMA Fibre has announced plans to build a new 1,371km long repeatered subsea fibre optic cable between the United Kingdom and several neighbouring countries in Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway. The total “minimum” capacity of this will reach a blistering 1.3 Petabits per second!

Customers of Sky UK’s older TV services and devices, specifically those that can only support the viewing of Standard Definition (SD) channels, are being given a last ditch encouragement to upgrade their set-top-boxes (STB) before they “lose access to all Sky channels” – starting from June 2024.

Some 700 homes and businesses in the County Tyrone (Northern Ireland) town of Dungannon have suffered significant broadband and phone connectivity problems, which occurred after criminals damaged Openreach’s local network during the theft of a “large quantity” of their copper telecoms cable.

A woman in Burnage has been successful in getting broadband network operator IX Wireless to move one of their poles (masts). The move occurred after she complained that it had been installed “without warning” next to her house and that staff had allegedly become “really weird and abusive on the phone” when she complained.
