UK ISP Quickline, which is deploying a gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband network across parts of England, has today announced that they’ve just gone live across four more villages in Rural North Yorkshire – Babthorpe and Hemingbrough, near Selby, and Killinghall and Ripley, near Harrogate (total of almost 2,000 premises).

Network operator and UK ISP Connect Fibre, which aims to cover 100,000 premises across the East of England with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, has announced that they’re responding to recent price hikes from rival providers by opting to keep their prices frozen for a second year.

BT (EE) has today announced the outcome of their recent 5G based mobile network slicing trial at their Adastral Park facility. The trial showed how future products could be launched that establish optimised network connections specifically for online Gaming, Enterprise and Enhance Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services.

Customers of Sky UK’s sibling NOW Broadband ISP sub-brand, which is perhaps better known for its associated NOW TV streaming service, may be pleased to know that the provider has finally launched a full fibre (FTTP) package on Openreach’s network. But there’s only one option and to get it you’ll be re-directed to Sky Broadband.

Infracapital-backed internet provider Fibrus, which is rolling out a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across Northern Ireland and parts of North England (Cumbria), has today become the latest UK ISP to introduce a cheaper social tariff for those on state benefits (“Full Fibre Essential“).

Customers of Sky UK’s (Sky Broadband, Comcast etc.) internet, phone and Pay TV products have today been told to brace for an average annual price hike of 6.7% (down from 8.1% last year), which is planned to be introduced from 1st April 2024. But this is mercifully lower than the rises of almost 8% (here) being introduced by their main competitors.

Uswitch.com has today revealed the winners of their annual 2024 Telecoms Awards event, which among things saw UK ISP Plusnet being named as the best ‘Broadband Provider of the Year’, while CommunityFibre won the best alternative network and Tesco Mobile scooped the win for best mobile ‘Network of the Year’.

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has this morning announced that they’ve become the first “major” UK internet provider to publicly launch a residential 2Gbps broadband package (Gig2 Full Fibre). On top of that, they’re also introducing symmetrical download and upload speeds as an optional add-on. But initially only for nexfibre areas.

Mobile network analyst firm Streetwave has today published the results of a new real-world benchmark, which examined the mobile operator performance of EE (BT), O2 (Virgin Media), Vodafone and Three UK across the country’s capital city of London. Suffice to say that EE came out top for mobile broadband speeds and network coverage.

Low-cost focused ISP TalkTalk has this week confirmed recent news reports by officially announcing that they’ve acquired Shell Energy’s UK broadband customer base from Octopus Energy, albeit for an as yet undisclosed sum. At the last count, Shell was believed to be hosting a total base of 480,000 internet and phone users.

A new project has claimed that “residents and businesses” across the London UK boroughs of Wandsworth, Richmond upon Thames and Merton will benefit from the rollout of a new full fibre broadband and Ethernet network, which is being supported by Boldyn Networks, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Transport for London (TfL).

Network operator and UK ISP Connexin has today announced that they’ve secured a contract under the Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout programme, which will see them extend their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to 34,320 hard to reach premises in parts of Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire (Lot 10).

CityFibre has today secured another five of the UK government’s Project Gigabit broadband rollout contracts, totalling over £394m. The deals will spread their full fibre (FTTP) ISP network to over 202,000 hard to reach premises across parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Sussex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire & Milton Keynes.
