Mobile operator Three UK has today reported their latest financial results, which among other things revealed that the average 4G / 5G data usage (mobile broadband), per customer, per month on their network had reached 21.3 GigaBytes in June 2022 (up from 19GB in Dec 2021).

UK ISP Zzoomm has today announced that they’ve decided to adopt Iskratel’s XGS-PON based Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) to help power their UK rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which already covers 50,000 premises.

Full Fibre network builder Netomnia, which is supported by broadband ISP partner YouFibre, has today revealed that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network now covers 210,000 UK premises (up from 130,000 in April 2022) and they’ve also published their rollout plan to 2023.

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) and consumer magazine Which? have today called on the Government to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis by enabling ISPs to cut Value Added Tax (VAT) on broadband and mobile bills from 20% to 5%, which is naturally a move that will attract wide support.

UK ISP Plusnet will today finally make their new range of cheaper Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) powered home broadband packages – via Openreach’s national network – available to new customers. The packages were first quietly introduced in May 2022 (here), but only to existing customers who were willing to phone up and ask.

Network operator FullFibre Limited, which is currently rolling out a new full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to serve “at least” 500,000 UK premises by 2025, has announced that they’ve appointed Adele Whild as Director of Delivery and Ross Duke as Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

Quickline 5G SA ORan Launch Team

Full fibre and wireless broadband provider Quickline has teamed up with Mavenir to, they claim, become the first ISP in the UK to commercially deliver a cloud-based 5G Standalone (SA) Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) solution for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service in a Shared Access Spectrum licence.

Exeter-based broadband ISP Jurassic Fibre, which is investing to build a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across South West England (Devon, Somerset and Dorset), has today announced the extension of their rollout into Cornwall – starting with the seaside town of Bude.

The £23.8m deployment by Virgin Media Business (VMO2) of a new 2,700km long “full fibre” network in Greater Manchester, which is designed to connect over 1,500 public sector sites, has also resulted in 17 public sites – including homeless shelters, charities and community centres – benefiting from free fibre broadband until 2025.

Broadband ISP and Pay TV provider Virgin Media (VMO2) has today announced another improvement to their Virgin TV 360 platform by making the long-awaited Disney+ streaming app available on the service for customers. Naturally, you’ll need to be an existing subscriber in order to use the app (£7.99 a month or £79.90 a year).
