BT (BT Mobile) has apologised and refunded one of their UK Mobile customers after their system informed him that “there won’t be any charges to switch your service to another mobile provider,” only to later hit him with a bill of £234.97 after having done exactly that. Customer support then refused to help, until we got involved.

Wireless UK broadband ISP and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider VoIP Unlimited has suffered connectivity problems again after being hit by a second “large scale” Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault, which began yesterday and follows a similar attack that occurred last month (here).

Consumer magazine Which? has just released the results of their 15th annual awards event for 2021, which among other things named Tesco Mobile as their “Utilities Brand of the Year” after they “easily” outranked their largest competitors in the company’s best and worst mobile phone providers survey.

Broadband ISP and network builder Upp has today informed ISPreview.co.uk that they’ve partnered with infrastructure developer Light Source to help support their £1bn project to rollout a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to 1 million UK premises in Eastern England by 2025.

After a delay that was caused by a data backlog regarding previous voucher schemes, the Government’s (DCMS) Building Digital UK team have confirmed that they are now actively onboarding local councils that are interested in setting up a top-up boost for their £210m rural gigabit broadband voucher scheme.

A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Uswitch, has claimed that more than 2 million UK households have chosen not to switch broadband ISP because they fear it would result in a loss of access to the email address supplied by their existing internet provider.

After all the leaks and rumours, Sky UK (Comcast) are this morning finally taking the wrappings off their new Sky Glass product, which we can confirm is essentially a Sky branded TV that streams their content over your home broadband ISP and WiFi 6 connection (i.e. no satellite dish and no set-top-box required).

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has today upgraded a further 2.5 million UK premises to their latest DOCSIS 3.1 network, which means that 12.8 million homes can now access their top “gigabit” download speeds of 1130Mbps (52Mbps up) and this will surely push UK coverage of “gigabit-capable broadband” to well over 50%.

British-registered satellite company OneWeb, which is busy deploying a large constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for ultrafast low-latency broadband provision, has received a second investment boost – worth $165m (c.£120m) – from rival operator Eutelsat that raises their stake from 17.6% to 22.9%.

UK ISP BT and partner Toshiba have today announced that they intend to build the “world’s first” quantum-secured metro fibre optic network between commercial sites in London, which will adopt ultra-secure communications via the use of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) encryption.
