Owners of the Linksys Velop Pro 6E and Pro 7 mesh routers, which are also used by some broadband connected consumers in the UK, are being advised to change the router’s passwords and Wi-Fi network names through an external web browser. The requirement comes after it was alleged that the models could transmit passwords in cleartext during the initial setup.

All of the shares belonging to Swindon-based fibre optic kit and cable supplier AFL Telecommunications Europe have recently been acquired by Italian firm Tratos Cavi Spa, which is a similar supplier. The acquisition deal aims to increase TRATOS’ footprint in the UK alongside its existing electrical cable manufacturing facility in Knowsley.

City-focused gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which has already extended their full fibre (FTTP / B) network to cover “more than” 1.73 million UK homes in parts of 64 towns and cities, has launched a new promotion that discounts all of their top plans (150Mbps, 500Mbps and 1Gbps) to just £15 per month for the first 6-months of service.

Network testing firm Global Wireless Solutions has today published the results of a new study that examined connectivity experiences in the UK, which saw Virgin Media (O2) win two awards for ‘Best Broadband Experience‘ and ‘Best Combined Connectivity Experience‘, while EE came top for ‘Best Mobile Experience‘.

Alternative network operator and gigabit broadband provider toob, which is deploying a full fibre (FTTP) network across parts of Southern England (they also share some of CityFibre’s infrastructure), has today become the latest ISP to launch a cheaper social tariff for those on certain state benefits.

A new Juniper Research survey of 3,300 UK mobile subscribers has named the top mobile network operators with the highest overall levels of customer satisfaction (measured by net promoter score). Tesco Mobile ended up ranking highest for overall customer satisfaction, with an NPR (Net Promoter Rating) of 93%. But it’s bad news for Three UK.

Consumer magazine Which? has today written to the CEOs of Virgin Media (O2), Scottish Power and British Gas in the hope of “urging them to improve their customer service“, which comes after a survey conducted by the magazine found all three to be the “worst broadband and energy firms for customer service.”

Analyst firm M-Lab and comparison site Cable.co.uk have today published their 2024 global broadband ISP speeds report, which reveals that the United Kingdom delivered an average (mean) download speed of 110.99Mbps (up from 93.62Mbps last year) – ranking us 35th fastest in the world (down from 34th in 2023).
