The perhaps tediously named telecoms infrastructure provider Altnets, which supplies things like optical fibre cable and active equipment to UK FTTP broadband builders, has announced that they’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for the “Growth Business of the Year” category in the Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards 2023.

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today published a shortlist of finalists for their 2023 annual industry awards, which sees 40 organisations (broadband ISPs, network builders etc.) being nominated across 13 categories, with a further 3 category shortlists due to be announced later in the year.

A new benchmark of mobile network performance (voice and broadband) across the Greater London area, which was conducted by the little known NET CHECK organisation, has revealed that Vodafone UK beat rivals at EE (BT), Three UK and O2 (Virgin Media) to be named as the best performing operator.

Benchmarking firm nPerf has just published the results from their annual 2023 crowdsourced study into UK mobile broadband (4G, 5G) performance, which sees Three UK taking the crown of best mobile network operator from EE (BT) for the first time. On the flip side, O2 (VMO2) came last, which is becoming somewhat of a trend.

Ofcom’s latest quarterly (Q1 2023) study of UK consumer complaints has named and shamed TalkTalk for attracting the most consumer gripes about both fixed line broadband and landline phone services (making a change from Shell Energy), while BT did the same for both Pay Monthly Mobile and Pay TV services.

Mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics (Ookla) has published their latest biannual H1 2023 study of UK mobile network (4G and 5G) and mobile broadband performance, which sees EE (BT) continue to pick up awards across all of the categories. But in terms of 5G data speeds, Three UK remains the operator to beat.

Ofcom has published its 2023 Mobile Matters report, which uses Opensignal’s crowdsourced data (collected between 1st October 2022 and 31st March 2023) to benchmark the performance of UK mobile data (mobile broadband) networks by both technology (3G, 4G and 5G) and operator choice – including Three UK, O2, Vodafone and EE.

The Institute of Customer Service (ICS) has just published their latest biannual UK Customer Satisfaction Index (July 2023), which finds that Tesco Mobile (ranked 7th), Sky Mobile (ranked 16th) and giffgaff (ranked 34th) were the only telecommunications providers to make their table of the top 50 organisations.

Ookla, which operates the popular Speedtest.net service, has published their latest Q1-Q2 2023 (H1) study into the performance of 5G based mobile broadband networks in the United Kingdom, which once again finds that Three UK continues to deliver the fastest median download speed (265.75 Mbps).

A new study by Uswitch, which adopted a Flesch–Kincaid readability test to examine the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) of all the major UK broadband ISPs, has concluded that Sky Broadband’s terms are the “trickiest” for customers to understand. On the other hand, Plusnet’s terms were found to be the “most straightforward“.

A new survey of 3,975 UK people who had a contract for a home broadband ISP in December 2022 and January 2023, which was conducted by Which?, has found that 53% have experienced “connection issues” in the past year (e.g. very slow speeds, connection drop-outs etc.) and Sky Broadband were the worst offender.

The second annual UK Fibre Awards event was held yesterday in London, which saw various broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across several categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of the winners included Wessex Internet for best rural and overall fibre provider, while CityFibre came top for fibre investment.

Global Wireless Solutions has today published the results of a confusing new study that measured the network performance of operators that have combined their mobile and broadband ISP businesses. Overall, the study found that the fastest download speeds by a combined provider were seen by Virgin Media O2 (138Mbps average).
