We already know a lot about BT’s forthcoming roll-out of “ultrafast” 300-500Mbps G.fast technology and last month’s new technical document (here) similarly appeared to confirm that the operator had opted to deploy the service from street cabinet extensions. This week we finally got a look at one.

The latest quarterly update from the Office of the Telecommunications Adjudicator (OTA) has revealed that the era of traditional pure copper line based Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), which gives rivals greater control over part of BT’s UK telecoms infrastructure, may be entering into a slow decline.

It’s been a year since BT and the Northumberland County Council signed a £4.1m deal (phase 2 extension contract) to further expand the reach of their “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) FTTC/P network to 95% of local premises by the end of 2017. Today we’ve learnt which areas will be the first to benefit.

Sky UK (Sky Broadband) has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they are about to start trials of a new 18Mbps unlimited usage Sky Fibre Lite (FTTC) product with around 20,000 customers, which is designed to tempt those on their slower ADSL2+ based service to upgrade to FTTC for a better speed.
