BTOpenreach has moved to “create incentives” for ISPs and their subscribers to change or trial a faster Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) or Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) “fibre broadband” speed by launching a new special offer, which cuts the £11.25 Bandwidth Modification Charge to £0.

The UK telecoms regulator has today published the final outcome of its Business Connectivity Market Review 2016 (BCMR2016), which has proposed changes that among other things would open up access to BT’s national Dark Fibre network, cut leased line (Ethernet) prices and deliver quicker installs.

Telecoms giant BT has today announced an expansion of their “ultrafast fibre” broadband plans in the United Kingdom, which will see a pilot of 330-500Mbps capable G.fast technology going live with 25,000 premises in Cambridgeshire and Kent, as well as a new 1Gbps business FTTP pilot in Bradford.

Blink and you’ll miss it. Without any fanfare the Government’s Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey, appears to have officially confirmed that 90% of the United Kingdom can now access a “superfast broadband” service, thanks partly to Phase 1 of their Broadband Delivery UK programme with BT.

The UK Government’s Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey MP, has taken a break from praising the progress of BTOpenreach’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) roll-out in order to criticise them for their “absolutely woeful” customer service. At the same time he also called for ISPs to stop advertising line rental with a separate price and called for clearer broadband speeds.

The CEO of BT Group, Gavin Patterson, has confirmed to the ‘Media & Telecoms 2016 & Beyond‘ conference in London that he will “significantly … accelerate the deployment” of their ultrafast 330Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband technology. But the details remain wafer thin.

A small community of rural homes and businesses around Drumcavel Road near Glasgow (Scotland) have been left without working fixed line broadband or phone services for one month, which occurred after a local fusebox exploded and damaged some of BTOpenreach’s underground infrastructure.
