The former Group CEO of All Points Fibre Networks (APFN), Jarlath Finnegan, has today been appointed as a Non-Executive Director for UK broadband ISP Wessex Internet, which is currently busy extending their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural parts of Southern England.

The latest company accounts for broadband ISP Plusnet, which is part of wider BT Group, has revealed that the company’s turnover fell by -15% to £343m in the year to 31st March 2025 (down from £402m last year) and their employee headcount declined by 133 to total 944.

As first hinted at last week (here), broadband ISP Zen Internet has today revealed details of their new “strategic partnership” with Sky Business Wholesale (Comcast). The move gives Zen’s partners (other ISPs etc.) and direct business customers access to Sky’s Ethernet-enabled exchange footprint.

Tewkesbury-based network operator Netomnia (Brsk, Youfibre), which has so far rolled out their full fibre broadband (FTTP) lines to cover 2.56 million UK premises (341,000 customers), has today significantly expanded the wholesale availability of their infrastructure by making it available via new internet providers (ISPs). Starting with business (B2B) packages.

London-focused ISP Vorboss, which runs a 100Gbps speed fibre optic network in the UK’s capital city, has told Ofcom that reclassifying the UK’s market for high capacity leased lines to include “LeasedLine Equivalents” (LLEs), such as XGS-PON technology (underpins many FTTP broadband networks), would be “misguided, confusing, and ultimately detrimental“.

City-focused broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which has spent the past few years rolling out their own full fibre (FTTP/B) network to cover 1.9 million UK premises and is also in the process of onboarding via Openreach’s network (here), this week announced that they had appointed Sam Horrocks to take on the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has today announced that ITS Technology‘s business-focused UK full fibre network is now live on their Fibre Hub, which forms part of their recently agreed partnership (here) and essentially aggregates access to a number of full fibre broadband networks for partner providers. But that’s not the only development that Zen has announced.

The debt riddled TalkTalk Group has issued an additional update this afternoon on their recent £100m funding deal (here), which reveals that the funding level has been increased by £20m to total £120m. The modest boost came other existing financial stakeholders agreed to participate.

In a perhaps unsurprising development, the TalkTalk Group finally published their annual accounts yesterday and revealed that they made a statutory loss before tax of £465m for the year ended 28th February 2025 (up from £153m last year). The company also lost 420,000 UK broadband customers, leaving them with a group total of 3.2 million.

The ITS Technology Group, which runs various open access full fibre broadband and Ethernet networks across parts of the United Kingdom, has today announced a new partnership with network asset reuse specialist AssetHUB that aims to “speed up fibre rollouts in major UK cities“.

The business division of UK broadband and mobile giant Virgin Media and O2 – VMO2 Business – have this morning announced that their recent merger with the Daisy Group has today resulted in the launch of a new B2B telecoms company called O2 Daisy (not to be confused with O2’s anti-scam AI chatbot of the same name).

Civil engineering firm M Group, which was itself acquired by private equity firm CVC (here) in 2024 and also harbours a telecoms (broadband and mobile) focused division, has today announced the completion of their deal to acquire rival UK and Ireland focused technology, telecoms and street works firm Telent for an undisclosed sum.

Network firm Zayo Europe, which operates a large high-capacity (400G capable) metro and long-haul fibre optic network across Europe, has today revealed that they’ve increased the route miles they power by 61% in H1 2025, compared to H2 2024. Both the UK and Germany have had the biggest impact on this.

The latest Q2 2025 results from Virgin Media and O2 today have revealed that their gigabit broadband network increased by 114,900 premises in the quarter to cover 18.53 million UK homes. But related customers suffered another fall to total 5,643,500 (down by -51.4k in Q2 vs -44k in Q1) and O2’s mobile base also suffered a fall (albeit with positive results in wholesale).
