Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre, which has established a number of largely business and public sector focused FTTP broadband and Ethernet networks around UK cities, today claims to have “achieved full ISO certification in all core management systems” and all within the space of just 12 months.

UK ISP TalkTalk has reportedly complained that BT is not offering them enough compensation, which comes after Ofcom ruled in March 2017 that Openreach had broken their rules by failing to pay ISPs proper compensation for late installations of high-speed business lines (Ethernet).

Customers of Lincolnshire-based fixed wireless broadband ISP AB Internet have today been advised by the company that it has gone into administration, with the aim being to sell the business as a going concern. The news follows recent network outages.

The enterprise division of SSE Telecoms has announced that their on-going ‘Project Edge‘ fibre optic network expansion in the United Kingdom will soon unbundle another 40 BT Exchanges in “prime business areas” and leverage Openreach’s new Dark Fibre Access (DFA) service.

Telecoms provider BT Business has slashed the price of their FTTC based “Infinity” broadband packages for new business customers, which all offer unlimited usage and download speeds of up to 76Mbps (19Mbps upload) on a 24 month contract term.

Telecoms operator Vodafone UK has today published their Q1 2017 (calendar) results, which saw their fixed line broadband base grow by +33,000 customers in the quarter to total 216,000 (up from +16k in Q4 2016). Meanwhile 4G coverage now stands at 96% (98% by Ofcom’s definition).

A new survey of 1,465 UK businesses by the British Chambers of Commerce has found that 70% of firms have suffered Mobile “not spots” (no signal) or “partial not-spots” (basic cover via only some networks), while 91% of those who suffered such issues are rural based (falls to 56% for urban firms).

The BT Group has released their latest quarterly report (Q1 2017 calendar), which saw their retail broadband base reach a total of 9,276,000 subscribers (up by 29K vs 83K in Q4 2016) and Openreach has begun a consultation on the “potential benefits and costs of a large-scale FTTP deployment.“

Internet provider TalkTalk has today published their latest full year results to 31st March 2017, which saw them bleed fewer on-net broadband subscribers (-20k in H2 vs -29k in H1) in the period to total 3,947,000 and 25% of those take their FTTC based “fibre broadband“.

Cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has released their Q1 2017 (calendar) results and reported that the broadband base grew by +80.7K in the quarter (up from +48.8K in Q4) to total 4,997,400 subscribers, while their Hybrid Fibre Coax (DOCSIS) network covered another 102,000 UK premises.

After years of fighting, the Court of Appeal has rejected BT’s most recent attempt to stop a ruling by Ofcom over the rate of interest payable in respect to their past overcharging for Ethernet services, which could force them to pay £22m+ to rivals. Next stop.. Supreme Court?

A new business ISP called G.Network has revealed that they’re in the “early stages” of developing a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to serve small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in central London, which will harness Openreach’s (BT) existing cable ducts (PIA).

Ofcom’s latest Q4 2016 Telecoms Market Data Tables have revealed that the United Kingdom ended last year with a total of 25,250,000 fixed residential and small business broadband lines, which is a quarterly increase of +216K (0.9%) and a year-on-year rise of 542K (2.2%).

The alternative hybrid fibre optic and wireless data network ISP Metronet UK, which serves several major urban areas around the United Kingdom, has re-branded to M24Seven after last year’s £47.5m acquisition of rival provider M247. Ex-Sky man Mike Darcey has also become their new Chairman.
