Cable operator Virgin Media Business has detailed its new £49 million backhaul network capacity deal with BSkyB (Sky Broadband). Under the agreement Virgin will connect around a third of Sky’s unbundled (LLU) local UK telephone exchanges with Sky’s own wholly owned nationwide broadband network.

Business ISP Fluidata has today signed a new “multi-million pound contract” with O2 UK that will supply the mobile operator with a new core network and enough “last mile” data connectivity and capacity to help support the expansion of its wireless internet (wifi) hotspots across the country.

A new survey of 100 senior IT strategists at UK organisations of all sizes, which was published by Zen Internet today, has revealed that 22% of businesses have adopted FTTC superfast broadband for their office WAN connectivity; the same proportion as those with dial-up. Budget internet and phone provider TalkTalk has published its latest Q1-2013 results, which saw them add another +10,000 broadband subscribers (unchanged from Q4-2012) to total 4,063,000 customers. The number of people taking their Superfast Fibre (FTTC) service also grew to 73,000 (+21k and broadly unchanged from Q4-2012).

Telecoms giant BT has today posted their latest financial results to 31st March 2013 (Q1-2013), which revealed that the operators retail ISP division had increased its fixed line broadband subscribers by +136,000 in the quarter to total 6,704,000 (up from the +122k added in Q4-2012 and +88k in Q3-2012).

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) has today published their latest financial results to 31st March 2013 (Q1-2013), which reported another quarterly increase of +152,000 in their fixed line broadband ISP subscriber base to total 4,387,000 customers (up sharply from the +132k added in Q4-2012 and +102k in Q3-2012).

Customers of O2 / BE Broadband’s fixed line home broadband and phone service have this week been told that the £180m+ sale to Sky Broadband (BSkyB) “has now gone through” and related subscribers are thus “officially with Sky“. But the actual migration to Sky will not get underway until this Autumn 2013.
