Network analyst firm Streetwave has revealed that they’ve been chosen by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in England to conduct a real-world study of mobile network coverage and 4G / 5G data performance across the region, harnessing 12,000km of the county’s road network and testing all three of the primary mobile networks – EE, O2 and VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK).

According to ISPreview’s sources, mobile operator EE (BT) appears to be starting the gradual consumer engagement phase of their plan to close down the old 2G network. The move follows last year’s earlier effort to begin engaging their business customers (here) – supporting them to move from 2G to more modern 4G, 5G or Internet of Things (IoT) services.

New customers looking to take a home broadband package from EE may like to know that the ISP has reduced the value of the Contract Buyout (i.e. Switching Credits) they offer from “up to” £300 to £200, except if you take both broadband and a TV bundle in which case the original value is maintained.

Mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics (Ookla) has this morning published their H1 2026 study of UK mobile networks (calls, texts etc.) and mobile broadband (4G, 5G) speeds. The results once again name EE as the best mobile operator after they scooped up the highest scores and fastest data speeds across most categories.

Mobile and internet provider EE (BT) has today confirmed our earlier leak (here) by officially launching their Advanced Full Fibre Broadband packages, offering downloading speeds of 2.3Gbps and 8Gbps to new UK customers. But availability remains limited to the Guildford, Woking and surrounding areas, although this is due to “expand further in the near future“.

New customers looking to take a home broadband package from one of BT Group’s retail ISPs, including EE and Plusnet, will from today find that they’ll also need to start paying for a one-off broadband activation fee again. The providers haven’t charged an activation fee for the past few years, partly to help boost take-up (a common practice).

Credible sources have informed ISPreview that mobile and internet provider EE (BT) is set to expand the availability of their FTTP-based “Advanced Full Fibre” 2.3Gbps (2,500Mbps) and 8Gbps (8,500Mbps) home broadband pilot on 31st July 2026, which will make it more accessible to the ISP’s existing customer base.

Ofcom has this morning published their latest Q1 2026 study of quarterly UK consumer telecoms and TV complaints, which reports that TalkTalk attracted the most complaints from customers for fixed broadband services, while Sky Mobile came top of the naughty table for Mobile services and EE did the same for Pay TV. But complaint volumes have fallen to their lowest ever level.

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end June 2026, which reveals that Openreach lost a total of 192,000 broadband lines to rivals over the past quarter (improved from -203k last quarter). But their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grew to 23.4 million premises (up from 22.92m) and EE’s 5G+ mobile coverage reached 77% of the UK population.

Rural connectivity provider Wavemobile, which specialises in deploying both private and public 4G and 5G mobile (mobile broadband) network services to rural communities and specific locations (inc. indoors), has revealed that their network recently had its five millionth unique connected device (this occurred two weeks ago).

Wireless infrastructure provider Freshwave has deployed their 4G Distributed Antenna System (DAS) across the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which can be used by any mobile network operator (EE, O2, or Vodafone / Three UK) to help staff, patients and visitors connect to a good mobile (mobile broadband) signal.

Broadband ISP BT (EE) has published new data to show how much of an impact Saturday’s night’s FIFA World Cup 2026 football match between England and France had on the internet provider’s national network, which we’re told saw peak BBC iPlayer traffic extend 75% higher than the peak recorded during the equivalent 10pm–midnight period in an average week.

Earlier this week Ofcom introduced new measures to help UK mobile operators “block, limit and disrupt scammers” from sending messaging scams (here). The changes, while positive, overlooked the fact that the regulator ended up rejecting an already adopted (in other countries) and UK developed fix that would have been more effective, partly due to BT and others complaining that it would be too “onerous“.

The latest data from broadband ISP BT (EE) has revealed that Wednesday’s night’s semi-final FIFA World Cup 2026 football match between England and Argentina triggered the “largest live streaming event ever seen” on the internet provider’s national network.

The UK internet content, telecoms and media regulator, Ofcom, has this morning published a “comprehensive package of practical measures” to help UK mobile network operators “block, limit and disrupt scammers” from sending messaging scams. In addition, they’ve strengthened rules to help protect people from international calls that imitate – or “spoof” – UK mobile numbers.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a digital poster advert for EE’s fixed broadband packages after several rival providers, including Vodafone and Sky (Sky Broadband), complained that part of its claims were misleading because they were not verifiable.
