Virgin Media Business UK Secure Berkshire Full Fibre Contract

UK ISP Virgin Media Business (VMO2) has secured a major new state aid supported contract from the West Berkshire Council (WBC) in England, which will see them deploy a new “full fibre” broadband and Ethernet network to connect more than 80 public sites (schools, GPs and public libraries etc.) by March 2022.

Public Funding Links 1,084 UK Schools to Full Fibre Broadband

The UK Government has today revealed that 1,084 schools in rural areas have now been connected to a gigabit-capable “full fibre” network as a result of the investment they started in 2019, which is continuing under their new £5bn Project Gigabit scheme. A further 884 schools are planned to be connected by March 2022.

Full Fibre UK ISP Hyperoptic Improves Support for Biz Customers

Broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which is deploying a new gigabit-capable full fibre network across parts of 43 UK towns and cities, has launched an additional support function for new business customers. Each customer will now be assigned a named advisor so that they receive a more personal service and timely updates on their installations.

MLL Telecom Signs Managed Fibre Deal with East Sussex Council

Exascale Prep West Midlands Dark Fibre Rollout with ClearComm

BT to Build First Quantum-Secure Metro Fibre Network in London

UK ISP BT and partner Toshiba have today announced that they intend to build the “world’s first” quantum-secured metro fibre optic network between commercial sites in London, which will adopt ultra-secure communications via the use of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) encryption.

Researchers Develop Error Free Plastic Optical Fibre Cables

A team of Japanese scientists working at Keio University have managed to develop a solution for “error-free” plastic (polymer) optical fibre cables, which can solve some of the cost, delay and heat generation problems that have tended to restrict their use. Data speeds of 53Gbps (Gigabits per second) were achieved.

Forecast Predicts 488 Percent UK Growth of Full Fibre by 2026

The FTTH Council Europe has today published their latest forecast for the growth of “full fibre” (FTTP/H/B) based broadband ISP networks across Europe, which predicts that the United Kingdom will see a staggering growth of +488% over the next five years to achieve 25 million homes passed by 2026 (up from 7m by the end of 2021).

Internet giant Google has today announced that their new private subsea fibre optic cable – ‘Grace Hopper‘, which will run between the USA (New York), UK (Bude, Cornwall) and Spain (Bilbao), has landed in South West England. The new cable has enough capacity to carry data at speeds of c.340Tbps (Terabits per second).
