The B4RN (Broadband for the Rural North) project, which is deploying a community built and funded 1Gbps “full fibre” (FTTH) rural broadband network to homes in several counties, have taken the hopefully temporary decision not to process new EIS1 forms (Enterprise Investment Scheme) for investments made into the ISP.

The Superfast Essex (SFE) project has now confirmed that they too have been affected by Gigaclear’s civil engineering delays, which means that the ISP’s planned roll-out of a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the UK county will now complete in July 2020 instead of December 2019.

The Government has today published their ‘National Infrastructure and Construction Pipeline’ report, which reveals the scale of public and private investment that is underway or expected to be put toward 5G mobile and broadband ISP connectivity (especially full fibre FTTP) between 2018/19 and 2020/21 (financial year).

The ITS Technology Group, which has built several fibre optic broadband ISP networks around the UK, has launched a special Black Friday discount for small businesses within their network coverage that offers 200Mbps “full fibre” for just £99 +vat per month or 1Gbps for £245 (symmetrical speeds).

A new study from the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), which did a systematic analysis of all of the 157 broadband measures that have been notified to the European Commission by Member States (inc. UK) between 2003 and August 2018, has warned that the current level of public funding is “insufficient“.

The latest trading update from TalkTalk has revealed that the ISP increased their on-net broadband customers to total 4,243,000, which is up by +24K during quarter to the end of Sept 2018 (vs +80k in the previous quarter). On top of that they’ve unveiled the “FibreNation” roll-out plan for their “full fibre” (FTTH) network.

Congratulations are in order after the Michaelston-y-Fedw Internet CIC (Myfi) ISP project in Wales, which built its own Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (here), last night won the “Innovative models of financing, business and investment” category as part of the 2018 European Broadband Awards.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has announced that their £10m investment to build a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband ISP network in the city of Stirling (Scotland), which will be sold on to consumers via UK ISP Vodafone, has now begun.

The latest ISPreview.co.uk survey of 1,860 online readers has found that the vast majority of respondents (86.8%) support the Government’s aspiration for universal coverage of ultrafast “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks by 2033, but only 43.5% believe it’s actually achievable.

The UK Government’s Digital Minister, Margot James, appears to have indirectly lent support to Cityfibre’s efforts to stop slower “hybrid fibre” (FTTC, HFC DOCSIS etc.) broadband ISPs from using the same marketing terms as significantly faster “full fibre” (FTTP) providers, which the MP agreed was “misleading advertising.“

An attempt by the Maldon District Council’s Finance Committee to block £45,000 of funding for the local roll-out of “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+), which is being conducted alongside Essex County Council UK, has been stopped after members of the district council voted against the committee’s decision.

The Essex County Council has confirmed that it will meet next week in order to discuss some of the “challenging” work conditions that UK ISP Gigaclear are said to be facing in the county, where they hold several state aid supported contracts for the roll-out of a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network.

The UK telecoms regulator has today issued an update on Openreach’s legal separation from BT. Overall they were “broadly satisfied with progress,” although Ofcom still wants to see more progress being made on improving “full fibre” (FTTP) and general broadband ISP connectivity.

Early Black Friday sales will begin later this morning with Hyperoptic choosing to further reduce the price of their 1Gbps capable “hyperfast” FTTP/B home broadband service, which currently covers 500,000+ premises in parts of 28 cities across the UK (mostly large apartment buildings). Prices now start from just £15 a month.
