None of the 17 initial pilot locations announced for BT’s pilot of 330Mbps capable G.fast (ITU G.9700/9701) broadband technology has included anywhere in Northern Ireland, but all that changed today after they confirmed that 4,000 premises in Antrim would benefit.

As most people known BT’s Consumer ISP division has long offered a range of broadband packages with capped usage allowances, at least it did until today as the options have been removed in order to avoid confusion. At the same time they’ve cut the price of their unlimited usage options.

Urban fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has today reached yet another social housing agreement, which means that “thousands” of homes in Thurrock (Essex) will soon gain access to their ultrafast 1Gbps capable FTTP/B based broadband network. A special £9 a month 5Mbps option will also be offered.

This can be applied to both slower hybrid fibre (FTTC) and ultrafast full fibre optic (FTTH/P) services.

Openreach (BT) has confirmed that some 9,877 new housing developments, totalling more than 240,000 new premises across the United Kingdom, are so far set to benefit from new contracts that offer a “free” deployment of ultrafast 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) technology.
