Pure fibre optic ISPs Gigaclear and Hyperoptic have offered a unique insight into the current challenges with rolling out new ultrafast broadband infrastructure across the United Kingdom, not least in regards to the difficulties of going up against a state aid supported BT and the question of whether or not to separate Openreach.

As the United Kingdom continues to fight over the coverage of so-called “superfast broadband“, where download speeds must be greater than 24Mbps (0.024Gbps), Singapore has decided to up its game even further by offering home customers of Singtel a 10,000Mbps (10Gbps) FTTH package!

BT has revealed some interesting new information on their UK plans for deploying ultrafast 300-500Mbps G.fast broadband technology, as well as SoGEA’s trial status, a possible extension of VDSL (FTTC) Vectoring, a new 18Mbps “Slow Speed” product for upgrading sub-2Mbps rural lines and more.

As feared last year’s cyber-attack (here) had a significant impact upon TalkTalk, albeit not nearly as big as some had predicted (here), with today’s vague trading update reporting that the ISP’s on-net subscriber base declined by -101,000 during the final quarter of 2015 (calendar).

At the end of 2014 Cityfibre announced their plan to extend an 80km pure metro fibre optic Public Service Network (PSN) in Huddersfield, Kirklees (West Yorkshire, England) to cater for local businesses and happily, after 10 months of construction, the operator has now completed it.

Construction of Cityfibre’s joint roll-out of a new ultrafast 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) network with Sky Broadband and TalkTalk in the UK city of York (England) has officially resumed today after work was paused due to the Christmas break. Happily the recent flood had no impact.
