Earlier today UK ISP KCOM unveiled Phase One of a new £100m project to extend the coverage of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into new parts of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire (here). Now the provider’s MD, Sean Royce, has revealed details of its initial rollout areas and other plans for 2020.

The incumbent broadband ISP for East Yorkshire and Hull, KCOM, has today announced the “first phase” of a major new £100m project to expand the coverage of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband service beyond their current network area, which will initially reach new parts of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire (England), KCOM, last night scooped the 2019 European Broadband Award for “Quality and affordability of services,” which predominantly reflected their £85m effort to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across their patch.

Ofcom has today opened a new consultation on the funding (compensation) arrangements for BT and KCOM’s forthcoming Universal Service Obligation (USO), which is due to begin on the 20th March 2020 and aims to ensure that everybody can request a minimum broadband speed of “at least” 10Mbps (1Mbps upload).

KCOM’s £85m rollout of a new FTTP broadband ISP network in Hull, as well as Digital Scotland‘s £442m (public and private investment) work with Openreach (BT) to spread “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) to 940,000 extra Scottish premises, have today both been named as UK finalists for the 2019 European Broadband Awards.

The incumbent phone and broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced that they’re ending rental charges for landline phone handsets from 1st November 2019. Instead the ownership of such devices will be switched to the customer or, alternatively, it’s suggested that they could chuck it (recycling centre).

After a delay KCOM has today formally announced the completion of their £85m “Lightstream” project, which covers 195,000+ premises around Hull and East Yorkshire in England with their “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network and a little FTTC (VDSL2). But the network could soon grow to cover new areas.

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced that 100,000 customers have now taken out a service on their new £85m “Lightstream” FTTP broadband network, which covers 195,000 premises; this represents an extremely strong take-up of just over 50%.

Macquarie Infrastructure (MIRA / MEIF 6 Fibre) has today confirmed that they’ve finalised their £627m acquisition of Hull and East Riding’s (East Yorkshire) incumbent broadband ISP KCOM. The new owner intends to expand the provider’s “full fibre” (FTTP) network, hopefully starting with the c.9,000 that have been missed.

The incumbent broadband ISP for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they will launch two new routers from mid-September 2019 – the Technicolor DGA2231 and ZyXEL XMG3927-B. Both look to be very capable devices and are aimed at users of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network.

After a frenzied week of bidding The Takeover Panel has announced that Macquarie Infrastructure – MEIF 6 Fibre – had won the auction for Hull and East Riding’s (East Yorkshire, England) incumbent broadband ISP KCOM. The group put in a huge final bid of £627m to see off competition from rival Humber Bidco.

In a surprise twist The Takeover Panel has ordered that the proposed sale of the incumbent telecoms and broadband operator for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, should go to auction after neither of the two bidders were able to declare their offers for the company as “final“. The stage is now set for a c.£600m sale.

The annual Connected Britain Awards 2019 (Total Telecom) were handed out last might to a number of winners in London, which among other things saw several UK broadband ISPs and “full fibre” network projects (Openreach, BT, KCOM, Superfast Essex etc.) pick up awards for their various different efforts.

In a surprise 11th hour twist the incumbent telecoms and broadband ISP for Hull in East Yorkshire, KCOM, has rejected a £504m cash offer for its business from a subsidiary of pension fund Universities Superannuation Scheme Ltd (USS) and gone with a £563m takeover bid from Macquarie Infrastructure (MIRA).

Ofcom has today proposed changes under their latest UK Physical Infrastructure (PIR) and Business Connectivity Market Reviews (BCMR), which imposes tougher service quality standards upon Openreach’s (BT) network, introduces a regulated Dark Fibre solution and gives ISPs “unrestricted access” to their cable ducts and poles.

The incumbent ISP for Hull and East Riding (East Yorkshire), KCOM, appears to have announced the “completion” of their £85m “Lightstream” roll-out, which means that nearly all of the 200,000+ premises within their network area should now be within reach of a 900Mbps+ Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service.

The national UK telecoms regulator has today published their 2019 study of fixed line home broadband ISP speeds, which reports that the average download rate has risen from 46.2Mbps last year to 54.2Mbps now and uploads hit 7.2Mbps (up from 6.2Mbps). But the gap between urban and rural areas has worsened.
