Ofcom has today published its latest quarterly customer complaints report for Q4-2012, which saw complaints against Orange UK’s (EE) fixed line Home Broadband service skyrocket to be double the level of any other ISP.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, confirms that the European Commission (EC) “did not raise any concerns” about its plans to slash the price that ISPs, mobile operators and businesses must pay to BT for 1Gbps+ wholesale Leased Line (Ethernet) services in all parts of the UK except Hull and London.

Ofcom has confirmed that Mobile Network Operators (MNO) in the UK will soon be able to boost their Mobile Broadband network capacity, speeds, coverage and reliability by trading radio spectrum in the recently auctioned 4G (LTE) frequency bands of 800MHz and 2.6GHz.

Ofcom has warned that a delay with moving Customer Side Records (CSR) to separated computer systems means that BT is now in breach of its 2005 Undertakings, which committed the operator to a “functional separation” of systems and processes to support the development of “effective competition” in the UK telecoms market.

Ofcom’s publication of a final set of information about the recent 4G (LTE) spectrum auction (800MHz and 2.6GHz) at the end of last week has revealed that Mobile Networks Operators (MNO) made total “theoretical” bids of roughly £5.2 billion or around £3bn more than the actual total of £2.368bn.

The national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today revealed that the average fixed line broadband internet download speed in the United Kingdom have reached 12Mbps (Megabits per second), which represents a rise of 34% from the 9Mbps reported in their previous August 2012 study and just 3.6Mbps in November 2008.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today issued radio spectrum licences to the five winners of their recent 4G auction for the 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands. The move means that BT, O2, Three UK, EE and Vodafone are now “free to deploy” related LTE superfast Mobile Broadband networks.

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest telecoms complaints bulletin to January 2013. Overall complaint levels have fallen and saw a fairly typical Christmas dip in December, although worryingly the number of consumers complaining about how ISPs actually handle their gripes has continued to grow.

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today confirmed that BT, Vodafone, O2, Three UK and EE have all won slices of the 800MHz and 2.6GHz radio spectrum bands as part of its 4G (LTE or WiMAX) superfast Mobile Broadband auction. Sadly ISP MLL Telecom and HKT UK (PCCW / UK Broadband) didn’t win anything.

The United Kingdom’s economics and finance ministry, HM Treasury, has quietly withdrawn vital secondary legislation that sets out how the costs of its controversial measures to tackle internet piracy by customers of broadband ISPs would be shared. The move could result in further delays for the Digital Economy Act (DEAct).

The latest Telecoms Market Data Tables Q3 2012 update from Ofcom has revealed that the United Kingdom is now home to a total of 21,371,000 fixed line broadband ISP connections (excludes corporate lines), which is up by +264,000 over the previous quarter and includes 639,000 superfast fibre broadband (FTTx) lines.

Broadband and phone provider KC, which operates almost exclusively in the Hull area of East Yorkshire (England), has adjusted the eligibility criteria for its Social Access Package that offers cheaper phone line rental (£5.62 a month) to the unemployed (low income groups) and those with other special needs.
