Cornerstone 4g and 5g small cell in Oxford PR 220425

Mobile infrastructure services provider Cornerstone (CTIL), which handles the UK network sharing agreement between O2 (Virgin Media) and Vodafone (Vantage Towers), has announced that Oxford will be the first of three major UK cities set for “enhanced [5G] mobile connectivity” in 2025 as they deploy a new “city-wide” small cell network.

Abingdon-based rural UK ISP Gigaclear has confirmed the completion of their gigabit broadband roll-out across the large South Oxfordshire (England) village of Sonning Common. The work to deploy their full fibre network across the village started in 2023 and a total of over 2,000 premises can now access the new service.

Abingdon-based rural ISP Gigaclear has today announced that they’ve kicked off the construction phase of their £25.4m (state aid) Project Gigabit contracts for South Oxfordshire (Lot 13.01 – c.5,500 premises) and North Oxfordshire (Lot 13.02 – c.4,200 premises), which will extend their full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to around 9,500 premises in hard-to-reach areas.

The Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and England’s Connected Heartland (ECH) have this morning announced that they’ve picked AWTG, a 5G mobile private network supplier, to enhance broadband and mobile connectivity along the soon-to-be reopened passenger railway line between Bicester Village and Bletchley.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today revealed the top locations for coverage of their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Oxfordshire (England), which sees the historic market town of Witney top the table with “nearly” 70% of all premises able to upgrade.

The Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and Neos Networks have revealed that their ongoing £7.25m “GigaHubs” project has now connected 180 public sector sites (schools, hospitals etc.) to a new gigabit-capable full fibre broadband network. But the work won’t complete until they reach the contracted 193 sites, later this year.

Alternative network provider and UK ISP Zzoomm is in the news for a second time today, albeit this time to celebrate the fact that their new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Shiplake (Oxfordshire), which only went live on 20th December 2023, has already exceeded a take-up rate of 20%.

The UK Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme has today announced two new contracts, which sees ISP Gigaclear awarded £26.5m to cover around 10,000 rural premises in North and South Oxfordshire. At the same time, Connect Fibre has scooped a £16.5m deal to cover 6,000 premises in North East Staffordshire.
