Customers of PlusNet’s superfast Fibre Broadband (FTTC) packages, specifically their legacy ‘up to’ 38Mbps (20Mbps upload) subscribers, have been left in a state of frustration after the ISP’s plan to upgrade them on to the new ‘up to’ 52Mbps (10Mbps upload) tier didn’t go quite according to plan.

UK ISP Plusnet has started offering their top ‘up to’ 76Mbps FTTC “Unlimited Fibre Extra” broadband service at £5 per month for the first six months (£19.99 thereafter). On top of that their standard ‘up to’ 17Mbps product is now free for the first 12 months and includes £50 Cashback.

UK ISPs EE, BT and TalkTalk have managed to collect the greatest proportion of consumer complaints for their fixed line broadband services, at least that’s one way of reading Ofcom’s Q1 2016 consumer complaints report. Meanwhile Virgin Media and Sky Broadband attracted the fewest gripes.

Budget ISP Plusnet has followed last week’s price rise announcement (here) by offering their ‘up to’ 38Mbps FTTC based “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” service free for the first 6 months of service (£14.99 a month thereafter), although you still have to pay for line rental on top.

Budget Internet provider PlusNet has today followed BT’s earlier April 2016 announcement (here) by unveiling their own round of annual price hikes to broadband and phone services, which will hit from 1st September 2016. But it’s not all bad news.

Customers of BT, TalkTalk, PlusNet and Sky Broadband in the United Kingdom (others may also be affected) are all being warned to keep an eye out for fake pop-up support messages that claim to come from your ISP (phishing), which due to a simple exploit can appear on even legitimate websites.

The first half of 2016 has seen average broadband speeds rise as consumers increasingly switch to faster services, with Virgin Media delivering the fastest average broadband download speeds and Zen Internet coming top for uploads. Meanwhile EE remains the king for Mobile Broadband.

UK ISP Plusnet has today recycled their 18 months of “free” up to 17Mbps unlimited broadband offer (£9.99 per month thereafter), but as usual this only works if you take it as part of a bundle with phone line rental and that costs £16.99 a month on top (or the equivalent of £15.49 if pre-paid).

Oh dear. Budget ISP PlusNet has put itself forward to be probed by the telecoms regulator after openly admitting to Ofcom that some of their customers might have been charged for a phone and broadband service that “was not live for a period of time between 2008 and 2015“.

Sky Broadband has added a £100 M&S e-Voucher to their Sky Fibre Unlimited (up to 38Mbps) service (currently £10 a month instead of the usual £20), while Plusnet has added a £50 Cashback voucher to their 12 months free (normally £9.99) ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband deal and BT have introduced £75 to £125 Reward Cards across all broadband and phone bundles.

Budget ISP Plusnet has unveiled a new round of special offers, which includes 18 months of free ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband (£9.99 thereafter), 6 months of free ‘up to’ 38Mbps Unlimited Fibre (£14.99 thereafter) and 6 months of ‘up to’ 76Mbps Fibre Extra at £5 per month (£19.99 thereafter).

Budget ISP Plusnet has reintroduced their offer of 12 months free unlimited home broadband (up to 17Mbps) for new subscribers (normally £9.99 per month) and added in a £50 Cashback discount, although as usual you still have to pay the line rental charge on top (from £15.49 per month).

The telecoms regulator has today published their re-jigged annual 2016 report into the Internet performance of the United Kingdom’s largest fixed line home broadband ISPs and their customers, which reveals that the average home download speed has jumped from 22.8Mbps last year to 28.9Mbps now. But the gap between rural and urban areas is still significant.

Consumer magazine Which? has this week published the outcome from their latest reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which saw Zen Internet and Utility Warehouse win the highest ratings. Unfortunately the same could not be said for TalkTalk, which had the lowest score by far.
