Southwark Council Set Plan to Rollout Wireless Broadband in Rotherhithe

The Southwark Council for south east London UK has set out a new plan and strategy for improving broadband connectivity in the residential district of Rotherhithe, which has a long history of suffering from slow speeds and generally poor internet service.

The Government’s Digital Minister, Matt Hancock, has told the Broadband Stakeholder Group 2017 Conference that existing hybrid fibre FTTC services are “not fit for the future” and that they will “strain every sinew” (wrong fibre Matt) to get “full fibre” (FTTP/H) ultrafast broadband rolled out in Britain.

UK Industrial Strategy Commission Calls for Good Universal Broadband

The independent Industrial Strategy Commission has today published their final report, which calls for all UK citizens to be given access to ‘Universal Basic Infrastructure‘ so that everybody can benefit from good quality rail, energy, water, flood defences, broadband and mobile connectivity.

Openreach Find “broad support” for Large Scale UK FTTP Broadband Rollout

After conducting an industry consultation Openreach (BT) has today claimed that ISPs offered “broad support” for their proposal to conduct a “large scale” rollout of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) ultrafast broadband across the UK, which could in theory reach 10 million premises by 2025. Openreach Says “copper will run out of steam” and Calls for FTTP Support

Openreach’s (BT) Chairman, Mike McTighe, has told the Broadband World Forum that “we are getting to the point where the copper will run out of steam” and there’s a need to focus on “full fibre” (FTTP/H), but he warned that this could only be done with ISP support and “increases in wholesale pricing.”

Businesses Confident in Gov’s Commitment to Digital Infrastructure

A CBI survey of 727 UK businesses has found that just 20% are satisfied with the Government’s effort to improve national infrastructure (energy, transport etc.) and 74% doubt it will improve by 2022, although 59% did feel confident that digital infrastructure (broadband etc.) would improve.

Digital Scotland Rollout Brings “Fibre Broadband” to 800,000 Extra Premises

The £428m Digital Scotland (DSSB) project with BT (Openreach) has said they’re on-course to extend fixed line “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) coverage to 95% of Scottish homes and businesses by the end of 2017. So far they’ve reached a total of 800,000 additional premises since the scheme began.
