The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has today joined ISPs, civil rights groups and others to warn that the UK’s new Digital Economy Bill 2017 lacks “data sharing safeguards” and may damage the vital “right to privacy and the right to freedom of expression.”

ISPreview.co.uk can today confirm that the first Internet piracy warning letters (aka – “subscriber alerts” or “educational emails“) will this month begin to be sent by all of the biggest broadband ISPs. The “alerts” will be issued to those users who are suspected of engaging in online copyright infringement.

The City of London Corporation (CoLC) has today announced that the current free WiFi service (provided by The Cloud), which covers much of the “Square Mile” heart of the area, will over the coming months be replaced and upgraded in order to support “gigabit speeds” and other high bandwidth services.

A new report claims that the Government is considering the installation of broadband Satellite dishes on church spires, which could be used to help expand faster broadband connectivity into the most remote rural communities around the United Kingdom.

The Welsh Government has come under fire after it was revealed that 28 primary schools in Wales, most of which exist in rural areas, suffer from such poor connectivity that they struggle to access the required online learning resources. One School described it as a “a form of rural deprivation“.
