Scotland’s RemIX Internet Exchange Wins 2016 EU Broadband Award

A unique distributed Internet Exchange (IX) for remote and rural networks in Scotland and the United Kingdom, RemIX, has won the “Future-proof and quality of service” category of the European Commission’s (EC) annual 2016 European Broadband Awards event, which was held on Monday.

Shropshire UK Reveals Tentative Extension Plan for Superfast Broadband

The Shropshire County Council in England has this week revealed that the next phase (Phase 2b) of their on-going Connecting Shropshire project will aim to bring “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) coverage to another 16,015 premises via £11.7m of public funding, but the plan remains vague.

BT Boasts of its £23.1 Billion Boost to the UK Economy in the Past Year

BT has today tried to show its “positive and direct impact on the UK economy“, and hopefully fend off some calls for Openreach’s separation, by publishing a report which claims that they spend more than £9.3bn a year with UK suppliers and boosted the economy by £23.1bn (GVA) during the past year.

TalkTalk Calls for BDUK to Stop Using Analysys Mason Over BT Fear

UK ISP TalkTalk has written a letter to the CEO of the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK programme, Chris Townsend, which warns that “serious conflicts of interest” may exist if they continue to use research provided by Analysys Mason, an analyst firm that is also assisting BT in a number of related areas.

Ministers debating the new Digital Economy Bill 2016-17 are starting to discover what many already knew, that the proposals to add ‘Age Verification’ to pornographic websites may in practice be unworkable. Instead some of them want to impose a duty on all broadband ISPs to block “adult-only content” by default.
