Satellite ISP Bentley Walker has pledged to provide their Tooway (Eutelsat) broadband service with free installation and free activation to several isolated communities in rural Cumbria (England, UK). The move follows a decision by Cable & Wireless Worldwide to cease their wireless internet service in Duddon Valley and Branthwaite.

Global telecoms giant Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW), which is busy trying to sell itself to Vodafone for £1.044bn (here), has warned two rural England (UK) communities in Cumbria (Duddon Valley and Branthwaite) that it will cut their broadband connection by the end of June 2012 because the public subsidy has expired.

Global satellite operator SES ASTRA has tipped BSkyB (Sky Broadband) to be one of the first in the world to deploy the next generation of Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) services (aka – 3840×2160 pixels or “4K” / 7680×4320 pixels or “8K“) into homes, possibly by 2015, which could call into question the future competitiveness of over-the-top (OTT) style broadband TV (IPTV).

The UK Space Agency, an executive agency for the governments Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), has awarded £1.1 Million from its new grant funding of £6 Million to broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications.

Worldwide satellite operator SES (ASTRA) has renamed its internet service subsidiary ASTRA Broadband Services and their familiar ASTRA2Connect product to SES Broadband Services and SES Broadband respectively. The new names are said to be “in line with SES’ new Corporate Identity“.

Welshpool-based ISP Exwavia, which uses wireless (WiFi) technology to deliver broadband internet access speeds of up to 14Mbps (Megabits per second) into isolated parts of rural Wales (UK), has warned that farmers could soon be hit by a new wave of fines and penalties if they do not start using the governments related online services (e.g. Taxation, Electronic Sheep Database etc.).
