Shrewsbury-based ISP SWS Broadband (aka RBBS – Rural Broadband Solutions Plc), which until recently only served premises in rural parts of Shropshire (England) and Wales with a fixed wireless access network, has announced that the first two locations under their full fibre rollout are now live in Shropshire.

The Telford and Wrekin Council in Shropshire (England) and broadband ISP Virgin Media O2 Business have agreed a new “multimillion-pound” partnership to connect 200 public sector sites (schools, council, libraries etc.) to the operator’s “multi-gigabit … full fibre” network, which could also help to extend residential services.

The Shropshire County Council (SCC) in England has this week allocated another £1 million (total so far of £2m) to help boost the value of the Government’s local rural gigabit broadband vouchers, which now offers grants worth up to £4,000 (homes) or £7,000 (small businesses) to cover the costs of installing such a network.

Network builder FullFibre Limited has today named the next batch of 19 towns in England to benefit from their rollout of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which recently hit a build rate of 15,000 UK premises per month and aims to cover “at least” 500,000 premises by 2025.

The UK Government has just launched several new Public Reviews at once, this time for Shropshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Suffolk and Norfolk in England, which aims to identify any existing or planned commercial coverage of gigabit broadband ISP networks. Such reviews help to establish the areas where public investment may be needed.
