Now Broadband UK ISP Router

Customers of Sky’s sibling NOW Broadband (NOW TV) ISP sub-brand, specifically those on their older “part-fibre” (FTTC) based superfast broadband packages, have been informed that their bundled Hubs (routers) are now unsupported and won’t be replaced if they develop a fault. But don’t “worry“, say NOW, because if that happens your service can be terminated or moved to Sky.

Several customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband have now informed ISPreview that the provider’s support staff have recently notified them about the launch, next month, of new WiFi Max hardware. This appears to reflect both the Sky Max Hub router and the Sky Max Pod WiFi extenders.

Network benchmarking firm Opensignal has today published a new report that examines how the UK’s broadband experience varies across speed tiers, with homes on “ultrafast” (300Mbps+) connections enjoying a “smoother and more reliable” service than those on “superfast” (30-300Mbps) ones. ISPs EE, Vodafone and Plusnet topped the performance rankings.

Sky (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has refreshed their Sky VIP scheme, which typically offers special discounts and rewards to existing customers. This began after the My Sky App introduced (9th April 2025) a new “first-for-Sky discounts marketplace“, exclusively available to their VIP customers.

A newspaper report has claimed that UK ISP Sky Broadband (Comcast) could have “tens of thousands” of customers on CityFibre’s alternative Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network as soon as May 2025. But the “full scale” roll-out is allegedly not expected to be completed until just a little later (H2 2025). Packages have yet to go live.

Sky UK has today published their latest bi-annual Attention Index report for the July to December 2024 period, which reveals various TV viewing figures across their network and also states that Sky Broadband customers used 19.1 billion gigabytes of data in the last six months.

Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV, Sky Mobile etc.) has confirmed that as many as 2,000 workers (7% of its total workforce) could be facing redundancy as part of a proposed plan to close three of its ten UK customer service centres, which reflects the company’s sites in Stockport, Sheffield and Leeds Central.

Uswitch.com has today named the winners of their annual 2025 Telecoms Awards event, which among things saw UK ISP Plusnet once again being named as the best “National Broadband Provider of the Year“, while YouFibre won the best regional provider award and giffgaff scooped the win for best mobile “Network of the Year“.

Sky’s sibling NOW TV video streaming platform appears to have now largely completed the deployment of its new app and User Interface (UI), adding a “new look and some great new features“. The roll-out of the new app started on 18th February 2025 and has taken “several weeks” to deliver, although some devices have yet to benefit.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the results from their latest broadband ISP satisfaction survey, which questioned 4,347 UK adults (Dec 2024 to Jan 2025) about their internet providers. Overall three ISPs were labelled ‘Recommended Providers‘ – Zen Internet, Plusnet and Utility Warehouse, while NOW TV (NOW Broadband) and Virgin Media were ranked at the bottom.

Customers of the Sky Mobile (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) service, which harnesses O2’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform, may like to know that they’ve recently made it even simpler for you to activate your eSIM on Apple devices (iPhone etc.) with iOS 18 or later. No more scanning of QR codes.

Broadband ISP Sky Business (Sky UK) has today announced the launch of their new Cloud Voice solution, which is partly intended to help businesses migrate away from the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) system before it’s switched-off at the end of this year (vulnerable consumers have longer, until 31st January 2027).

Ofcom’s rules require that all “phone, broadband and pay-TV providers” must “warn customers when their current contract is ending, and what they could save by signing up to a new deal” (usually sent between 10-40 days before the end of your contract). But an ongoing legal challenge makes the situation for customers of Sky TV a bit more confusing.

Most of the major broadband ISPs in the United Kingdom (BT, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, EE and Plusnet) have just been handed a new court order to block an Israel TV video streaming site, which was found to have been facilitating internet copyright infringement (piracy).

Internet provider Sky Broadband has promised customers of their service, specifically those connecting via the latest ‘Sky Max Hub‘ router, that a fix is on the way for a long-running bug that appears to be preventing users from being able to use Wi-Fi Calling when on their home network.

The UK government has today set out its plan for increasing digital skills to help “deliver growth and opportunity for all“, which among other things includes various pledges from key ISPs and mobile operators (e.g. BT, CityFibre, Vodafone etc.) to help support the initiative and break down the digital divide that still exists for many people.
