A new study by Uswitch, which adopted a Flesch–Kincaid readability test to examine the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) of all the major UK broadband ISPs, has concluded that Sky Broadband’s terms are the “trickiest” for customers to understand. On the other hand, Plusnet’s terms were found to be the “most straightforward“.

Customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband may like to know that the provider has today officially launched their new WiFi 6 capable “Max Hub” router, which is accompanied by a new “WiFi Max” (mesh network / repeaters) system to help guarantee coverage around your home (i.e. the “UK’s fastest WiFi guarantee, of any major provider“).

A complaint by Sky (Sky Mobile) has resulted in the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) banning a multitude of Vodafone’s adverts for misleadingly claiming to offer the “UK’s only Phone Buy-Back Guarantee“, which is despite the fact that they are not the only UK company to guarantee to buy back the phones they sold.

Sky’s standalone Sky Stream TV product, which uses your broadband ISP and Wi-Fi connection to stream their on-demand video content and live channels directly to your existing TV set (without a satellite dish), can now be purchased in 285 Currys stores nationwide after the media giant signed an exclusive retail partnership.

A new survey of 3,975 UK people who had a contract for a home broadband ISP in December 2022 and January 2023, which was conducted by Which?, has found that 53% have experienced “connection issues” in the past year (e.g. very slow speeds, connection drop-outs etc.) and Sky Broadband were the worst offender.

New customers looking to take one of Sky Broadband’s plans may like to know that the ISP has begun offering their FTTC and FTTP powered “Superfast” (61Mbps) and “Ultrafast Plus” (500Mbps) packages at half price until the end of 2023, which means that they now cost £17 (£34.50 thereafter) and £24 (£48 thereafter) respectively.

A new survey conducted by Opinium with 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Sky Mobile (vested interest), has found that 19% of UK mobile phone users have never changed their network operator, while 28% haven’t switched for more than 5 years and could thus potentially be missing out on over £100 every year in savings.

Global Wireless Solutions has today published the results of a confusing new study that measured the network performance of operators that have combined their mobile and broadband ISP businesses. Overall, the study found that the fastest download speeds by a combined provider were seen by Virgin Media O2 (138Mbps average).

Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing in the UK has finally revealed why they needed to discuss the matter with several major UK broadband ISPs (i.e. those that bundle their service with Pay TV products), including Sky Broadband, BT, Virgin Media and TalkTalk (here). The new extra member and profile transfer features won’t work on such packages.

Indian-owned Firstsource Solutions have confirmed that there has been a change in their long-running contract with Sky, which could result in up to 200 jobs being lost across their sites, such as in Belfast, Derry and Derby. The redundancies are likely to impact those working for NOW Broadband (NOW TV) sales, Sky service and Sky sales.

A new benchmark study from telecoms analyst firm Umlaut, which tested and measured fixed broadband connectivity in the United Kingdom over a period of 6 months, has awarded their overall “Best in Test” certificate to Virgin Media (VMO2) after they came top for both download and upload performance.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a minions themed TV advert for UK ISP Sky Broadband, specifically their “Wall to Wall Wi-Fi Guarantee“, after BT complained it “misleadingly implied that customers would receive seamless Wi-Fi in every room of a house“, when in fact they wouldn’t and it didn’t include any extenders or boosters.

Customers of Sky UK’s sibling NOW Broadband (NOW TV) sub-brand, which in March 2023 reportedly said that it would keep their broadband and phone prices frozen (here), has now begun notifying customers of an imminent price hike that will be introduced from 5th July 2023 – hiking monthly prices by an extra £3.50.

Ofcom has today published their 2023 UK study of broadband ISP, phone and mobile service quality, call waiting times, complaint levels, faults, repairs, compensation and install times amongst the largest providers. For example, TalkTalk attracted the lowest satisfaction for broadband (78%), while Plusnet secured the highest (89%).
