Streetwave Set to Survey Mobile Broadband Coverage Across Cornwall

Network analyst firm Streetwave has confirmed that they’ve been chosenb y Cornwall Council in England to survey mobile network coverage and 4G / 5G data performance across the region, harnessing 7,250km of the county’s road network and testing all three of the primary mobile networks – EE, O2 and VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK).

Opensignal Find Broadband Altnets Took 4.4 Points of UK Market Share in 18 Months

Network benchmarking firm Opensignal has today published a new report, which used device-level measurement tracking of real broadband switching (changing ISP) events across the United Kingdom to find that alternative broadband networks (altnets) grew their market share by 4.4 percentage points in just the last eighteen months (holding 11.4% of UK subscriptions).

The UK’s largest alternative full fibre broadband network, CityFibre, has this morning proposed organisational changes that could result in 200 roles being impacted, subject to consultation. The move is said to be a response to the current environment, where market conditions remain difficult and there has been “slower progress on consolidation“, impacting their near-term growth.

Study Claims 5 Million Brits on UK Coast at Risk of Accidental Mobile Roaming Charges

A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults (weighted to be nationally representative), which was commissioned by Uswitch.com, has claimed that more than 5 million people (9.8%) have seen their phone connect to an overseas network while they were still in the UK, triggering a roaming charge or alert. But 76% of respondents still think this is “impossible” or have never heard of it.

Gigabit Broadband Coverage Reaches 91 Percent of the UK in H1 2026

We’ve today published our biannual summary of fixed broadband coverage for the first half (H1) of 2026, which reveals that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have grown to reach 85.05% of UK premises (up from 81.89% in H2 2025) and 91% are within reach of “gigabit” 1000Mbps+ speeds (up from 89.6%). Study Claims 1 in 5 Londoners Might be “Overpaying” for Broadband

A new study of 2,000 UK adults, which was conducted in May 2026 by UK ISP CommunityFibre, has claimed that more than half of Londoners (51%) are currently tied into a contract or subscription they believe is too expensive, while one in five say their broadband “costs more than they would like“.

The SpeedGeo project, which compares internet connection quality by benchmarking the speeds of real users, has published their Q2 2026 results and once again named Virgin Media as the fastest fixed broadband ISP. At the same time they’ve also named Three UK as the fastest mobile broadband (4G, 5G) operator. But there are caveats.

Five Alternative UK Broadband Networks Ranked in ORESA Growth Index 2026

The latest annual ORESA Growth Index 2026 has just been published and this year’s edition includes five alternative full fibre broadband networks – Toob, Netomnia, Grain Connect, CommunityFibre and Fibrus. Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has revealed that yesterday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 match between England and DR Congo (2 – 1) fuelled the “biggest mobile traffic event ever recorded” on their mobile network, which saw mobile data (broadband) traffic peak 20.38% higher than the prior peak (during the Arsenal vs PSG UEFA Champions League Final) and 27.67% above a comparable pre-tournament week. EE (BT) reported similar.

Wessex Internet Revenues Jump as Broadband Covers 66,000 UK Premises

Rural broadband ISP and alternative network builder Wessex Internet, which is deploying a mix of full fibre (FTTP) and fixed wireless networks across Southern England, has published their annual accounts to the end of 2025. The report reveals that revenues jumped by 47.7% to £8.5m in the year and their network coverage passed 66,000 premises.
