A new study has identified the top 10 and bottom 10 council areas in the United Kingdom to live by their average (mean) broadband ISP speed, which is ranked by considering the average speed that is possible if everyone in the area brought the fastest available service. Speedtest data is then used as a balance.

Ookla has published a new table, which reveals how much your Mobile Broadband (3G / 4G) speeds could drop within the EU when you roam outside of your home country. For example, the average local mobile download speed in the UK is 26.16Mbps but this drops by -19.4% (21.08Mbps) when roaming.

A curious new report from BroadbandChoices has claimed that only 12 out of the 391 UK councils analysed have reached 95% coverage of “superfast broadband” and the worst is allegedly West Dunbartonshire (Scotland), which suffers from only 11% coverage. Except it’s completely wrong.

Ofcom has today published their latest Q4 2017 UK consumer complaints study, which notes that TalkTalk attracted the most gripes for both fixed line home broadband and landline phone services. Meanwhile BT were the naughtiest child for both Mobile and Pay TV.

At the start of 2017 several ISPs, including BT, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky Broadband, began sending the first internet piracy warning emails (“subscriber alerts“) to those suspected of taking part in copyright infringement (here). Today even the government are still clueless as to its progress.

A new report created jointly by the Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), UKWISPA and Point Topic has estimated that alternative network ISPs had expanded the reach of FTTP/H/B based “full fibre” ultrafast broadband networks to 998,500 premises at the end of 2017.

A new survey of 2,205 UK internet users (conducted between 22nd Feb to 22nd March 2018) warns that 82% of respondents have never changed the default admin password for their broadband ISP router and 86% have never updated its firmware. This could make them more vulnerable to hackers.

RootMetrics has today published another batch of results from their latest study, which reveals the 4G (LTE) network coverage of the United Kingdom’s four primary mobile operators across 16 of the biggest UK cities. EE delivered the best coverage but often only by the narrowest margin.

A new RootMetrics study has ranked eight of the United Kingdom’s most popular rail transit lines by the quality of their on-board Mobile (3G and 4G) network connectivity. Overall those taking a train via the ‘London Paddington to Reading‘ route are likely to have the best experience.

An independent model has estimated that the coverage of fixed “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) services across the United Kingdom has grown slightly from 94.7% in December 2017 (here) to 95.1% at the end of March 2018, with most of the increase being fuelled by publicly funded projects.
