Customers of UK telecoms giant BT may be interested to learn that the ISP has been conducting trials of a new Virtual Content Delivery Network (vCDN), which uses software-based caches that can be flexibly used at selected points, deeper in the network, to bring content (video etc.) closer to the “edge” where their users consume it.

Customers of broadband ISP and mobile operator Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) can now harness their ‘Priority‘ access to special offers by gaining free “Early Access” to the closed Diablo IV Beta (popular video game) test, which they say can normally only be enjoyed by pre-ordering the game (RRP from: £59.99).

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) saw its “busiest day ever on record for data consumption” (for gaming) on 16th Nov 2022 – trigged by the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which pushed downstream internet traffic to a peak of 21Tbps (21 Terabits per second) and a massive 138 petabytes (PB) of data downloaded.

Broadband and Cloud Gaming ISP ZYBRE, which offers services to UK homes over a number of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) networks (Openreach, MS3, FullFibre etc.), has this morning announced the acquisition of rival provider Air Broadband that adopts a similar approach to network aggregation.

Internet giant Google has announced that they will “begin winding down” their cloud-based remote-play online video gaming service, Stadia, which launched in the UK during November 2019. Despite their best efforts and a lot of publicity, the service simply “hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected“.

Internet traffic across UK broadband ISPs surged last night as people tuned in to stream the Champions League semi-final and to download the latest 40GB (GigaByte) ‘Season 3’ update for the popular ‘Call of Duty Warzone’ video game. As a result, TalkTalk set a new peak traffic record of 8.715Tbps (Terabits per second).

Broadband ISP TalkTalk has taken a closer look at the internet traffic from over 1 million of their customers on Christmas Day and managed to identify the top five video gaming console gifts. The data reveals that Nintendo’s Switch console was by far the most popular gaming gift for 2021, with 22,995 new devices being connected on the big day.

Mobile operator EE UK has today announced that Pay Monthly Mobile customers of their service can now take a Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with “unlimited gaming data” from £21 a month (£31 with the video data pass) and they can also have an Xbox Series X video gaming console for just £10 upfront.
