Fixed wireless UK ISP Stix Internet has announced that the first rural homes and businesses have just gone live on their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network near to Huddersfield in West Yorkshire (England), which is being supplied to consumers via their Northern Fibre sub-brand.

Exeter-based network builder FullFibre Limited has today announced that their UK rollout of a gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network has been expanded to a fourth region, which will see them spreading across the North Midlands and Yorkshire – starting with 22 new locations.

The Rotherham Council in South Yorkshire (England) has scrapped its original 2018 plan to deploy a free public WiFi (wireless broadband) network to serve the town centre area, which occurred after the chosen supplier went through some unspecified changes and showed a “general lack of engagement” in progressing the contract.

The UK Government has today announced the start of their new “Fibre in Water” trial, which will test the deployment of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband cables through 17km of live drinking water mains between Barnsley and Penistone (Yorkshire). In theory, this could help to cut the cost of rural broadband delivery and reduce leaks.

UK ISP Brsk has today confirmed that the rollout of their new gigabit-capable and “open access” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which is most active around parts of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and West Yorkshire, has just reached 27,000 homes passed with 2,000 customers live in under 10 months.

UK ISP Quickline, which operates a mix of full fibre (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband networks across parts of Lincolnshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire, has revealed that they plan to upgrade their existing Microwave capacity links to support data speeds of 10Gbps (Gigabits per second) over distances of 10-12km.

Vodafone OpenRAN Mast in Rural UK Area

Mobile operator Vodafone has today named some of the first rural towns in the UK to benefit from their planned rollout of 4G and 5G OpenRAN (O-RAN) technology, which is set to reach a total of 2,500 sites by the end of 2027 (here). The named communities have “traditionally struggled to receive good quality … mobile coverage“.

The UK state aid supported Superfast West Yorkshire and York (SFWYY) programme and Openreach (BT) have announced the completion of their Phase 2 deployment contract, which has spent the past few years working to extend the local availability of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) services (including a fair bit of full fibre).
