Virgin Media O2 Engineer Working Inside FTTP Cabinet

Broadband ISP Virgin Media UK (VMO2) has today confirmed that their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network has, for the first time, been made available to over 17,000 homes in the Cricklewood area of London. Some 3,000 homes in Castleford (West Yorkshire) have also been added.

CityFibre has today confirmed that they’re investing £27m to deploy their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to homes and businesses in the West Yorkshire (England) city of Wakefield, which is a location that was quietly removed from their rollout plan back in 2020.

Broadband ISP Quickline has today claimed to be the “first” company in the UK to offer Standalone 5G (SA) technology, which will be used to bring superfast and ultrafast broadband speeds to rural areas. The first services will offer speeds of up to 450Mbps, but there are “plans” to hit “gigabit capability” by summer 2022.

UK ISP Zzoomm has announced that their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has begun to go live in parts of the large railway town and civil parish of Crewe and Nantwich (Cheshire, England), with premises in the village of Shavington being the first to benefit. But competition is fierce.

The Broadband Delivery UK team have just published a new batch of Public Reviews (PR) and Open Market Reviews (OMR) for additional parts of England – mostly covered by Phase 2 of the Government’s £5bn Project Gigabit broadband rollout. Both aim to identify which areas need state aid support for future builds.

Hull-based UK ISP MS3, which is backed by infrastructure fund Asterion, has selected Nokia to supply the full fibre XGS-PON technology for their rollout of a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the North of England, which aims to cover 500,000 premises. The first build has also begun.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has today announced that they’ve joined with existing network supplier Nokia to conduct one of their first UK trials of Open Radio Access Network (OpenRAN) technology in the East Yorkshire City of Hull, which they hope will “enhance [the] mobile broadband experience” for locals.

UK ISP Brsk, which is busy building a new gigabit-capable and “open access” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, has today announced a major expansion that will see them aim to cover 150,000 premises across the Greater Manchester area (i.e. Stockport and the surrounding areas, with plans for Middleton and Oldham).

A new 6-month long trial has been launched by broadband ISP and mobile operator Virgin Media (VMO2) in the City of York, which will see the provider working alongside the city council to repaint vandalised street cabinets and bring them back to their original state.

KCOM, which recently extended their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 250,000 premises across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire in England (here), have published their annual accounts and revealed that their total broadband customer base has grown to 139,700 (most are now on fibre, having migrated from copper).

CityFibre UK has today confirmed that their £32m rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the South Yorkshire town of Barnsley, which was disrupted after the collapse of their previous contractor NMCN (here), will now be conducted by Svella Connect.
