COVID-19 – East Yorkshire ISP KCOM Softens Data Allowances

Hull-based UK ISP KCOM, which is currently investing £100m to extend their “full fibre” network across new parts of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire (here and here), has announced that – due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – they will be making changes for those customers still on data capped packages.

FibreNation Start 1Gbps FTTH Broadband Rollout in Batley

The FibreNation project, which is currently being acquired by Cityfibre from UK ISP TalkTalk for £200m (here), has today announced that they’ve begun work to roll-out their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to 6,000 premises across the town of Batley in Yorkshire by the end of 2022.

Leeds City Council UK Sign £20.3m BT Full Fibre Rollout Deal

The Leeds City Council in Yorkshire has today signed a new £20.3m partnership with BT (Openreach), which will see the latter build a new local “full fibre” network to connect hundreds of schools, NHS and other public sector sites across the city. A new fund will also be setup to support community broadband initiatives.

First Customers Live on KCOM’s New £100m FTTP Expansion

Last month saw Hull-based UK ISP KCOM unveil a new £100m project to extend the coverage of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into new parts of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire (here and here). Cable and fibre optic ISP Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has just completed another build of their 516Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband and TV network in County Durham, which has just gone live for 4,500 homes in the Sunderland town of Houghton-le-Spring, including the surrounding areas of Shiney Row and Penshaw.

Now the provider’s MD, Sean Royce, has revealed details of its initial rollout areas and other plans for 2020.

KCOM Win 2019 European Broadband Award for Network Quality

KCOM Scraps Rental Charges for Landline Phone Handsets

The incumbent phone and broadband ISP for Hull and East Yorkshire, KCOM, has announced that they’re ending rental charges for landline phone handsets from 1st November 2019. Instead the ownership of such devices will be switched to the customer or, alternatively, it’s suggested that they could chuck it (recycling centre).

North Yorkshire UK Starts Build of £15.1m Full Fibre Network

The North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has announced that they’ve started the build phase of their £15.1 million project to deploy a new Gigabit capable “full fibre” network, which will be used to help connect some 370 public sector sites (e.g. council buildings, hospitals etc.) across the county over the next 18 months.
