Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has appointed the former Director of Technology at TalkTalk, Jon Bauer, to take up a similar role within its own business, where he will help with a multi-million pound investment programme to “build a new national network” for Zen.
At this stage little is known about Zen’s next generation network, although one part of it is probably reflective of the usual need to update and replace critical capacity links with more modern and faster alternatives. On the surface this might seem like a simple task, but often such things can involve significant and complicated work.
The new network will be needed for a number of reasons, not least to support the future introduction of so-called “ultrafast” broadband via technologies like G.fast. Demand for Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) lines is also expected to pick up following BT’s commitment to roll-out coverage to 2 million more UK premises, all of which will need more capacity.
Jon Bauer, Zen’s Technical Director, said:
“I have joined Zen to advise and deliver on the evolution of its network from a reliable and efficient one to a carrier-grade telecommunications infrastructure that will deliver and support the next generation of connectivity, IT and telecommunications services.
When complete the new Zen network will provide the company with a solid platform on which to further build its credentials as a wholesaler, backed up by Zen’s market-leading reputation for service in the Channel.”
End.
