BDUK Update Figures for Openreach’s Project Gigabit Broadband Contracts
The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has updated the latest contract values and contracted premises figures for their Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contracts with Openreach (BT), which takes account of recent changes to show that all of the contracts combined are now worth £850m and will bring FTTP to around 358,000 premises.
The eight contracts all form part of Openreach’s wider Single Supplier Framework deal – now valued at up to c.£1.2bn, which are focused on Cross-Regional (Type C) procurements (no other suppliers tackle Type C). Type C typically reflects remote areas where no or no appropriate market interest has previously been expressed before to BDUK, or areas that have been descoped or terminated from a prior procurement (examples here, here, here and here).
Openreach have, over the past few months, absorbed several previously failed Project Gigabit contracts with different suppliers, and we’re expecting this to grow in the near future as a number of other Project Gigabit contracts have since hit troubled times (e.g. CityFibre’s £58.6m contract for Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire – Lot 10 – here).

Just remember that contract modifications occur all the time, which may expand or shrink the scope of each deployment as situations change, so you can never be 100% sure what the final picture will be until each contract is completed.
