Customers of budget UK mobile operator GiffGaff, which makes use of the O2 network, are today being affected by a “network wide problem” that has caused serious disruption to voice, text and internet data services since around 10am this morning.
The cause of the problem appears to be a power outage that was triggered by a burst water mains pipe at the operators supplier. No firm ETA for a fix has been issued but, unlike some operators (*cough* Orange UK *cough*) , GiffGaff are at least keeping their Service Status forum page updated with progress.
UPDATE 5:12pm
The latest update states that ,”data and voice services are being brought online for everyone, but in stages. You will notice that some members are getting it back before others; this is completely normal and to be expected. You should expect to have your data and voice back soon if you have already“. Still no ETA for when texting will return.
