Budget broadband and phone provider TalkTalk has announced on its Price Notifications page that the cost of standard phone line rental on its service will be hiked from £13.80 to £14.50 per month from 1st May 2012.
The move should bring TalkTalk’s standard charge into line with BT, which last August 2011 increased its line rental fee to £14.60 a month. Just like BT, TalkTalk is also offering a Value Line Rental service that saves around £60 a year off the cost (£9.50 a month) when you pay for the line 12 months in advance (i.e. making bundles and paying up-front more attractive than monthly options).
TalkTalks Spokesperson said:
“TalkTalk can confirm there will be no price increase for Value Line Rental, which is cheaper than BT or Sky and is already saving our customers millions of pounds.
Customers who signed up for our £9.50 Value Line Rental scheme since it launched last October have been saving £4.30 per month. This will rise to £5 per month from May 1, when the standard line rental charge rises from £13.80 to £14.50, or an annual saving of £60.”
Sadly the higher price has already become effective for new customers. Credits to Thinkbroadband for pointing us to this.
