One For All UK Launch New Indoor TV Aerials with 4G Interference Filter

Wednesday, Feb 27th, 2013 (10:27 am) - Score 12,048

One For All, which produces TV related equipment, has announced the launch of two new indoor TV aerials that include a built-in 4G (LTE) filter that it claims will reduce interference from related Mobile Broadband signals in the 800MHz spectrum (due to roll-out around the UK from late spring 2013).

Ofcom predicts that up to 2.3 million UK homes could suffer from a loss of Digital Terrestrial TV (DTTV Freeview) when the new 4G based services go live in the 800MHz band, although funding has only been set aside to help around 900,000 or so homes that are “likely to rely” on DTTV services “for their primary viewing“.

According to One For All, this problem is “especially likely” in areas close to a 4G LTE transmitter or where the Freeview signal is already weak, and in blocks of flats with a single master aerial. As a result the firm has produced two new indoor aerials that work by “cleaning the transmission being received by the set top box, so that all signals above the 790MHz spectrum are filtered out“.

Apparently without this “cleaning” the Freeview box could “potentially overload“, which seems somewhat unlikely; though it would struggle to display a good picture.

New Aerials Statement

The top-of-the-range SV9395 is an amplified indoor antenna that enables you to enjoy the best TV reception up to Full HD and also in 3D. Its 360 degree multi-patch technology increases the reception capability and means the aerial can be placed flat, standing or on the wall. It has a touch control digital amplifier up to 51dB for optimal signal reception and is DVB-T/T2, Freeview and DAB compatible.

The SV9385 is a smaller, equally stylish indoor antenna. It also achieves minimal interference due to its active noise reduction filters including the innovative 4G LTE filter and a GSM-block filter. Dual-patch technology gives it a wide 180 degree reception angle and it has an adjustable digital amplifier up to 47dB.

Both the new aerials come with gold-plated coaxial cables and will work up to 15 miles from the nearest TV transmitter.

Sadly we’ve never had much luck using indoor aerials, regardless of the 4G problem, but that’s usually because many of us reside well over 15 miles from the nearest transmitter or live out in the sticks. To find out how far away you live from the transmitter just visit: http://www.ofa.com/check .

The new kit is expected to retail at around £40 to £50 a pop, although we’ve been able to find the cheaper one for about £30.
