The £18.6m state aid supported Superfast Leicestershire project in central England has this week named the first communities to benefit from the scheme, which ultimately aims to make BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network available to 96% of local homes and businesses by March 2016.
The first phase of BT’s deployment, which will begin this summer 2014, will cover around 10,000 (premises passed) homes and businesses across the county. Once the project is completed some 62,000 additional premises will have gained access to the new network.

Kasam Hussain, BT’s Superfast Leicestershire Manager, said:
“After months of behind the scenes planning and survey work we’re delighted to be able to reveal the first locations we expect to benefit from this fantastic project. Look out for our engineers as they hit the streets to lay the brand new fibre infrastructure that will extend faster broadband far and wide across Leicestershire.”
